Cheap Hard Drives and SD Cards Are Your Giga-and-Tera Deal of the Day

We brought your attention Amazon's Gold Box sales earlier today. There's a whole host of SD cards, portable hard drives, and flash drives all made by Transcend at significant discounts today, but if you're not keeping tabs on memory prices you could be wondering what's worthwhile. The short answer is most of it: this is the exact kind of stuff that it's good to stock up on because a little foresight could save you a lot of money. Deals like $9 for an 16GB SD card sound great to me—the last time I needed one for my camera I had to pay full retail price from one of those Best Buy vending machines in an airport.

But what are the best deals here? Let Professor Dealzmodo break it down:

• The best deal in this lot is the 1TB Transcend Information Portable HD for $79. Not only is it the lowest price on the internet, but it's also a rugged HD. Sometimes Dealzmodo finds other 1TB USB 3.0 hard drives under $80, but they usually include annoying mail-in rebates. Skip the 750GB model; you'll want the extra space. [Amazon]

• All of the flash drives are a really good value. There are two 64GB flash drives on sale. The cheaper 64GB model doesn't have USB 3.0, but does have a nifty retracting mechanism reminiscent of the SanDisk Cruzer. And it's $5 less. Still, if you've never had a huge flash drive, it's great—giving a friend a high-def movie file becomes trivially easy. [Amazon]

• The 16GB SDHC for $9 is an OK deal, especially if you're simply trying to top off your basket to get free shipping. But Dealzmodo has posted 16GB Class 10 SD cards for as low as $5 in the past. The real value here is the 128GB SDXC—we rarely see 128GB SDXC cards on sale, and almost never under $100. If your camera can handle it, you won't have to concern yourself with running out of space, even if you're shooting in RAW. [Amazon]

• CompactFlash is going the way of the dodo, but if you've got a device that uses it the Transcend 64GB card is retailing for over $100 everywhere else. [Amazon]
