The 37 or So Ingredients That Make a TwinkieS

If you've been nostalgic for Twinkies because you won't be able to buy them anymore even though you've stopped eating them for years, a photographer would like to remind you what Twinkies are actually made of. Some of the ingredients don't even look like food.

Dwight Eschliman, a photographer, decided to create a gallery of the 37 ingredients inside a Twinkie and took pictures of the typical wheat flour, sugar, corn syrup and fun sounding stuff like soy lecithin, polysorbate 60, dextrin and sodium stearoyl lactylate. Eschliman says:

I've never been a health nut. But I was raised by one. My mother wouldn't let us kids within one hundred feet of meat, eggs, white bread, or any sort of processed food. She made homemade wheat gluten… More recently, when I became a parent, I started thinking a bit about food. I began to consider which foodstuffs are healthy and which are not… I love the idea of taking any object and deconstructing it down to its component parts. Essentially, I find great thrill in lining things up and photographing them. Thus, this project. The Twinkie is made up of 37 or so ingredients and this is what they look like.
