If you're looking to convert DVDs and BluRay discs to a digital format and want it to be easy, but not too easy, and definitely not free, Walmart has the service for you. They're automating their Disc-to-Digital service so you can get UltraViolet versions of movies you've already bought.
But here's where it gets really fun. The service still costs $2, or you can shell out $5 to upgrade DVDs to HD quality Ultraviolets. Bliss! Or, you know, just rip it yourself, because you bought it so it's yours.
In-store Disc-to-Digital is already part of Walmart's Vudu streaming service, so that's where the new online version will live. Users will be able to convert approved movies from Vudu's partners, which include DreamWorks, Lionsgate, MGM, Paramount, Sony, Fox, Universal and Warner Bros. No word yet on how the site will check proof of purchase for the original disc.
