NEX cameras owners should feel a bit better about their purchase after tonight, as Sony just announced two additional E-Mount lenses to pick from—a 20mm f/2.8, and 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 power zoom.
The 18-200 actually already exists, but until now it was only available as a kit lens for the VG-30 camcorder. The new lens is geared toward filmmakers, sporting motorized zoom that can be controlled directly through some of Sony's video cameras such as the VG-30, FS-700, and VG-900.
The pancake lens is a bit peculiar, as Sony already has a 16mm f/2.8 pancake. That lens has its flaws, but it performs well enough for most, while offering a nice wide field of view. It might come as a surprise that Sony isn't choosing first to fill the more obvious gaps in it's E-Mount lineup with a medium-telephoto prime, or a high quality / wide-aperture zoom lens.
The 20mm f/2.8 will be available in April for around $350, while the 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 will be available a bit earlier, in March, for around $1200. [Sony]
