Everyone on the Internet has an opinion — especially car guys here on Gizmodo. That's why when the new Ford Fusion aroused such an overwhelming commenting lovegasm it got me thinking.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could bring some of those commenters — both fan-boys and negative nellies — out to sunny Southern California under the auspices of a Gawker Media research trip for a surprise face-to-face with the Fusion starring Top Gear co-hosts Rutledge Wood and Tanner Foust? Yeah, it would be. We call it — The Fusion Project.

The cherry on top of this sundae of awesome is that we shut down two miles of Mulholland Highway and hired Tim Damon, one of the most acclaimed car commercial directors in the world, to film us bringing the amazing debate in our comments to life.

Now, I don't want to ruin the surprise, but here are two words to whet your petrol-powered whistle: Jalop Gear.
