This 1080p Projector Is Your Almost-Affordable Deal of the Day

If you're a movie enthusiast, you know that there's no substitute for the theatre experience. And if you want to recreate it at home, you need a projector. Most projectors are really expensive.

However, right now Woot's running a cool sale on Optoma projectors, which is a brand that's made quite a name for itself recently with projectors that don't suck at prices that real people can afford. Our friends at the Wirecutter like the Optoma HD33 as a good 3D projector and the HD20 as the best projector under a grand. From the HD33 review (which you should read before you buy):

Comparing it to other projectors in its price range, the HD33 regularly emerges with the best mix of value and performance.... The HD33 hits an attractive sweet spot in terms of price, performance, and features. Is it perfect? No. But if you're new to the projector game, you won't do much better right now without spending a good bit more money.

If you can put up with refurbs from Woot, the HD33 is $1050 — a full $300 less than Amazon — and the HD23 (a brighter version of the HD20) is $680. Both are solid deals and come with a 30-day bulb and 90-day general warranty. These deals project to sell out pretty soon. [Woot]

Just Because You Save $1200 On This Mac Pro Doesn't Mean It's a Good Deal

This 1080p Projector Is Your Almost-Affordable Deal of the Day

Professional Mac users have been upset about the lack of communication (and meaningful updates) to the Mac Pro. For instance, when Apple updated the line in Summer 2012, it was, to put it kindly, an underwhelming update. So this is the most recent Mac Pro, for whatever that's worth, and usually it retails around $3700 for a 12-core Intel processor and ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics. Today Best Buy cut the price to $2500. Is it a deal? Well, to the extent that this is a notable product that was more expensive last week, yes. But considering that you can certainly get much nicer components for significantly — significantly — less, then I don't think you can call any of the current Mac Pros a deal at any realistic price. [Best Buy]

Note: Amazon briefly matched Best Buy's price this morning... then sold out quickly. So at least some people were jazzed over this deal.

Best Price Since December On Gizmodo's Favorite Budget DSLR

This 1080p Projector Is Your Almost-Affordable Deal of the Day

Back on December 12, we featured a $600 Canon Rebel T4i from Amazon as the deal of the day. The deal was so good, in fact, that I bought one for myself at that price. The T4i is a CMOS-sensor DSLR that can tap into the entire library of Canon lenses, and Mario Aguilar declared it the best budget DSLR after he reviewed it. It can produce 1080p video. It's a cool camera, and right now at Rakuten it's $560 with a kit lens. That's the best price we've seen in 2013. [Rakuten]
