The First-Ever Wii U Price Drop Is Your Deal of the Day

The Wii U hasn't had the easiest time so far in its short 128 days since it launched in the United States. From a barren release schedule to slow sales, it's no wonder folks are asking Shigeru Miyamoto whether he's concerned about the console's future. But here's the bottom line: soon, there will be new flagship Zelda, Mario, and Metroid titles, and the only way you can play them is if you've got a Wii U.

While there have been minor promotions on the Wii U in the past, they usually involved a gift card or a free game. Today, Best Buy's running a straight-up price drop on the Wii U Basic: it was $300 — and still is almost everywhere else — but today it's $250.

Although Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said there won't be a price cut any time soon, it's unclear whether this sale is an omen of things to come or simply a temporary, loss-leader deal. If you pick one up now, you won't be miffed if they're still $300 when new Zelda games come out and you need one. [Best Buy]
