This HP Chromebook Is Your Deal of the Day

While Google's sleek Chromebook Pixel garners most of the attention from the tech-savvy set, the lower cost Chromebooks are where the action's at. Obviously, a Chromebook only really runs one program—Chrome—but it's a important program. Because most Chromebook buyers will already have a traditional computer, it's makes more sense to sell them for a couple hundred dollars. They're secondary machines.

HP's Pavillion Chromebook is one of the cheap set. Most of the specs are identical to other inexpensive Chromebooks, except for its 14-inch screen. Other Chromebooks roll with the 11-inch screen size standard started by netbooks. Sure, with that bigger screen comes reduced battery life, but there's someone who will love the extra couple of inches. Right now Staples is running the first sale we've seen on this laptop: the code 45582 knocks $75 off the MSRP, bringing the total cost to $255. That's a steep price for a browser, but not that much to pay for a laptop. [Staples]

Update: A commenter noticed that this model may be eligible for another $50 off through a mail-in rebate from HP. There are a lot of stores that are specifically not eligible, but it doesn't look like Staples is one of them. If it works, that knocks the price of this Chromebook down to $205, which is obviously better. [HP, PDF]
