These guys are so strong that they can walk invisible walls in the air

As far as I can tell, I don't think there's an invisible wall where this guy is pushing his legs off of to make it look like he's walking on thin air. But I can't be sure though because I assume once you get as strong as these guys, you unlock all sorts of secret life powers. I mean these tricks are unreal. » 8/20/14 9:12pm 29 minutes ago

A car crash has never looked as beautiful as in this music video

Manchester Orchestra's drummer Timothy Very sent us the band's music video for Simple Math, the single that gives its title to their third album. It's from 2011, but I had never seen it and it's filmed beautifully, so here it is. Some of the scene transitions are really clever and visually impressive. » 8/20/14 8:46pm 54 minutes ago

How the BBC uses tiny cameras to capture their incredible wildlife…

BBC wildlife filmmaker John Downer explains how new camera formats had changed the rules of the game—new small HD spy cameras can be hidden almost anywhere, allowing him and his team to get unique images that capture the true behavior of wild animals in a way it couldn't be done before. » 8/20/14 8:23pm Today 8:23pm

This short with Alan Rickman just destroyed one of my childhood memories

I don't know if the short Dust—written and directed by Ben Ockrent and Jake Russell—is a fairy tale or a horror tale. Let's just say that I didn't expect the end at all. This is very disturbing but worth watching, and not only because I love Alan Rickman in the role of... of... you just watch and see. » 8/20/14 7:43pm Today 7:43pm

The First Automata Trailer Is Finally Out and It Looks Spectacular

If Blade Runner and I, Robot gave birth to a new movie starring a bald Antonio Banderas, it would look just like Automata, the latest vision of our inevitably dystopian future. That future—or at least the way director Gabe Ibáñez has imagined it—also looks pretty dang awesome. Well, spectacular is probably a better… » 8/20/14 5:56pm Today 5:56pm

Stop Pretending There's a Line Dividing Politics and Tech

"Silicon Valley is a place where seemingly impossible problems are solved every day," Ezra Klein writes in a new post for The Verge. "...while Washington is a place where solvable problems prove impossible to do anything about." Klein presents a huge chasm dividing the worlds of technology and politics. This idea is… » 8/20/14 5:23pm Today 5:23pm

Lego's Amazing New HQ Is Finally Underway (And You Can Build Your Own)

Lego maniacs have another pilgrimage destination to add to their list: The brand's new "experience center" broke ground in Billund, Denmark yesterday. As you'd expect, the building itself looks like it's constructed from a pile of Legos. And thanks to a new Lego Architecture kit, you can start building your own… » 8/20/14 4:50pm Today 4:50pm

Virtually no one starts smoking after age 26

There's a reason the government has had to severely restrict cigarette advertising (and smoking in general) to minors: they're the only ones still gullible enough to think smoking is a good idea. According to the Surgeon General's office, anyone over the age of 26 has a better chance of being mugged by a great white… » 8/20/14 4:44pm Today 4:44pm

Our Hot, Bright Cities Are Spawning Gigantic Spiders

File this one under: Oh HELL no. While we know that our ever-industrializing lifestyles make survival tough for animals like birds and mountain lions, in at least one case urbanization is helping a species to thrive. Thanks to the artificial conditions we create, our cities are growing ultrafertile megaspiders. » 8/20/14 4:15pm Today 4:15pm

How Twitter Could Beat the Trolls, And Why It Won’t

Twitter has a troll problem. It has from the beginning, really. But it's been particularly loud this month, thrown into sharp relief with the sickening attacks on Robin Williams' grieving daughter, Zelda. Twitter's response has been tepid at best—and as far as squashing trolls goes, it's the most we can ever expect. » 8/20/14 3:24pm Today 3:24pm
