    NEC's Chinese Touchpanel-Only Phones: N610, N620

NEC is releasing two new GSM phones designed especially for the Chinese market, having replaced the traditional keypad with a touchscreen with handwriting recognition. The N610 [left] and N620 [right] have share 176 x 220 touchpanel LCDs, although the N620 has a 260k color screen as opposed to the N610's 65k screen, as well as a VGA camera and "vocal guidance." Both display the time through a hole in the flipscreen.

Is Chinese character recognition more or less accurate than Roman character recognition? I would think with thousands of characters, the opportunity for computer-aided hilarity would be a few hundreds times greater. Does anyone have any stories about screwed up Asian character recognition? If you send one to me, include pictures!
