When I4U mentioned this new 1.5GB hard disk music player from NHJ Japan, they wondered why NHJ isn't released a 4GB version to compete with the Apple iPod mini, musing that perhaps Apple bought all the 4GB drives available. Last I heard, that's pretty much the case, actually.
This VHD-1500 player, while still the same price as the iPod mini, does at least beat it in one area: it's just a little smaller and a little lighter (plus has the FM receiver that Apple continues to refuse to integrate into the iPod).
