Like you'd expect, the Na'vi mate by joining those ultra-magical weaves of theirs together. The extended scene was hinted at both by Cameron and actress Zoe Saldana, and Cameron implied that the longer cut might well end up in the special-edition DVD (and, assumedly, Blu-Ray) release.
