Moments after loading page in Chrome/Mac (latest version), page disappears. Reload, same thing occurs. Happens across all Gawker pages. #broken(Edit comment)
Someone please help me figure out why elements of all Gawker sites continually fail to load on my computer, taking four, five, even more refreshes to get them working sometimes. Sometimes banners are missing, sometimes articles, sometimes pictures, sometimes the login button, and any combination of those. I have tried new profiles of every major Windows browser, none worked. I have tried using zero extensions on all of them. I have tried disabling real time antivirus. #broken(Edit comment)
Let's try the basics first: Clear your cache and delete your cookies, restart your browser and then try again-- did that do the trick? If not, please let me know the following:
What Operating system are you running? What Browser? (make sure to include version #'s, if possible) Are you running any plug-ins? Let me know whether clearing your cache/deleting your cookies worked/ if it didn't and sorry for the inconvenience.
I've tried that many times, as well as a complete deletion of Firefoxs and Chromes profiles. I'm running the latest Opera, Chrome, and Firefox, it happens in all of them. Its Windows 7 64 bit. I've tried with and without plugins, it makes no difference, and I have adblock disabled on all gawker domains. #broken(Edit comment)
When you run the sites with no plug-ins, does this include Ad-block plus? If not, please disable this all the way (not just permissions, for the sake of trouble shooting) Regardless, I'll go ahead and inform the tech team. Again, sorry about this.
Yeah that includes Adblock, I ran it from a completely clean install and it still happens, so I don't think its any left over code from an addon. #broken(Edit comment)

Just testing if it works. We'll be fixed pretty soon.

I am running Win7, This just started about 3 days ago. It is hit or miss. I have run it on Chrome 17.0, Firefox newest version, and IE9, nothing works properly. I just tried running it incongnito mode, and there is supposed to be a pic attached to this of icognito sign. But as you can't see it is not working lol. Okay Giz, I'm using google Chrome web browser, and I have been having all sorts of issues with commenting lately. Second Gizmodo logs me out randomly during the day for no reason at all. Thirdly, when trying to comment on posts or articles, I get an error message saying "Failed to post comment" or "You are unable to post on this site." This occurs sometimes. Any suggestions to why my account is making me look like an idiot when i'm trying to post.
It is quite frustrating to see that I have to go back and reedit my post after it not posting correctly. #broken #tips
Does this issue occur in another browser, like Internet Explorer or Firefox? Also, what version of Chrome are you running and on what Operating System? #broken
If you haven't noticed my comments, or lack there of comments below is because it didn't post correctly. MifuneT is also having the same problem as I am, He is using Win7, Latest version of Firefox, and his Giz username + pwrd.
I also am using Win7, Google Chrome (latest version 17.0) and also it is linked to my twitter account. #broken
I can't use Firefox Nightly 13.0a1 with Giz. It just quits. The crash reports say it's the extensions acting up but if I disable the culprit then another one makes the browser crash. Running it in safe mode solves the problem, and so does using Aurora (12.0a1). I'm pretty sure that the bug if from Mozilla, but if anyone is willing to try with the same config as me (Mac OS 10.6.8), I might be proven wrong.

I view Giz in Blog mode under Firefox (9.0.1 at the moment) on Win7. For quite a while, the image with the top story is blank -- just a white box. Occasionally it might flash the image before going white.
When the top story falls off the top to become the second story, it displays normally. If I open the top story by itself in another tab, it displays normally. It works just fine under [cough, cough] IE. I keep on top of both FF and Flash updates.
Having the identical problem with FF 10.0. It has something to do with the settings under about:config, but the support forums for Viddler (Gawker's video source) seem to have vanished. #broken(Edit comment)
I tried to upload an image into a comment yesterday, let me tell you how it went.
1. Type clever reply 2. Click "Image" to past URL - button not responding. 3. Highlight and copy reply, and click "Cancel" so I can reload page. 4. Comment was posted by clicking "Cancel." - WTF? 5. Click "Edit Comment" to add Image. 6. Click "Image" to copy URL, click "Submit" wait for image. 7. Image not shown, refresh page two times. 8. Repeat steps 5-7 several times. 9. Give up and Edit comment to post URL and say "Damn you, Nibbles." 10. Comment posted, however hyperlink now look like this "link.jpg < / p > Damn" 11. Edit again to put URL at the bottom, so not to include following text. 12. Repeat step 11 until editing timeout. 13. Link still followed by the /paragraph close tag.
At least this workaround... works. We don't have many "Comment Save Failed" errors around these parts, but I know you're used to them over on Oppo. They're the worst.
(edit 1) I am currently on XP FF9.0.1, and look at that first link. It ate the first word of the next sentence. And THIS sentence before I added the period.

Oh my God, do you really work for Gawker? Are you really allowed to talk to us about the back end of the Gawker network's sites? Because I guarantee that if you're allowed to talk to us and answer (even some) questions people will be a lot less hard on all of you guys.
I realize that the stuff that's buggy now is probably lightyears away from what was going on with the redesign, but you can understand that as a user we haven't had a bug-free experience since then so to us it all seems like one thing was broken in the process of fixing something else.
I work in IT (not for a web-based company) so I know how hard you guys must be working in the background, but it seems like changes are so slow to come that it makes me think that there's so much broken that we can't see that you guys are spending all your time on that stuff.
Will we ever have a commenting system that runs as smoothly as it use to again? #broken
Also, on any browser the user name is unclickable after a few minutes. Tablet or desktop. it requires a reload of the pages open. #broken(Edit comment)

Picking blog view does not stick. Firefox 9.01. Choose Blog view, go into article, hit banner -back to "traditional" -heh. Seems to be related to cookies. At home it works fine but it you accidentally choose traditional, you're never going back to blog view again. Only solution is a favorite that points to blog.[gawkersite].com
This has been reported here many times. I hope it can be addressed. It happens in every browser I've tried. It used to be fine -- go from blog view to an article, hit the Gizmodo banner at the top and you were back to blog view. Now you go back to the standard home page instead. #broken(Edit comment)
Off topic, but why do the images on some stories turn white at the top? Kinda like someone sprayed the top 1/4 of the image with fake snow or something. It's really annoying.#broken(Edit comment)
Hello, I'm from the Gawker help desk-- I read your comment on pictures looking weird from your end-- would you mind sending me a screenshot as to what you are seeing? (posting it in your next comment, if possible). Let me know and sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi Steve, Let's see if that works... And it looks like it didn't. Here's the URL: [www.flickr.com] It's from a Jalopnik page but the effect is the same -the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the image is whited-out... (Edit comment)
Or if you want, go ahead and email me the message (with pic attached) via the help desk at help@gawker.com -- let me know when you've done so and I'll go ahead and have a look. Again, sorry about this. #broken(Edit comment)
It looks like you're running Chrome in incognito mode (or if its a skin, please let me know)-- is it the latest version? If not, upgrade and then try again. Also, if its not chrome in incognito, would you mind running the same page in private/incognito? Does the image seem to lag when loading? Do you have script running? Let me know #broken(Edit comment)
Hi Steve, Not running incognito - just with a color theme. My version of Chrome is 18.0.1010.1 dev-m, and it is up-to-date - that's the first thing I did to try to fix it. As far as extensions, I have Ad Block Plus running. And yes, the white bar at the top of the image lags a few seconds - the page will load, and then the top of the image goes white. It doesn't happen all the time, and I can't predict when it will happen. #broken(Edit comment)
Disable ad-block plus all the way (don't just add permissions-- disable it all the way), restart Chrome and then try again-- is the bug still occurring? Let me know and again, sorry about this. #broken(Edit comment)
Glad its working properly! Unfortunately, the only advice I can give at the moment is to either keep ad-block plus off or view the sites in incognito mode (if the semi-broken image really bothers you). However, I'll inform the tech team about this slight glitch on your behalf. Again, sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. (Edit comment)
Only problem now is, with Ad Block Plus disabled, I can't use the Search box. It's hidden behind advertising sometimes, and at the moment it is hidden behind a grey-ish box that says "The Gadget Guide." #broken(Edit comment)
That's actually a problem we are currently working on fixing (a lot of other users are experiencing this too) I'll go ahead and write another complaint about this to the tech team (they are currently working on a fix) Again, sorry for the inconvenience. #broken(Edit comment)
blog.giz often has problems loading for me. It is the ONLY site I have problems with. Sometimes I get a connection reset error and nothing loads, sometimes it loads as all left-justified text, sometimes it doesn't completely load everything on the page. Hitting the refresh button always fixes this and the page reloads fine. I'm running Firefox 9 with Adblock Plus on Windows 7. #broken(Edit comment)
No other site I visit fails to load with Adblock Plus running. I realize you make your money through selling ad space, but the ads are so intrusive that I will not visit the site without Adblock Plus enabled. I think a better solution would be to make your advertisements less intrusive. Then I could white list it in my Adblock Plus filters. #broken(Edit comment)
Then, unfortunately, we cannot offer further assistance for this issue as it is being caused by a third-party plug in that we have recommended that you disable. #broken(Edit comment)
I figured I'd also let you guys know, but for some reason all articles do not load up using opera mobile. The main page (blog.gizmodo.com) opens up with no issues, but any thing opened after that is just the top banner and side bar, no matter if I open it on the same page or in a new tab. This happens for ALL Gawker media sites and only on the Opera mobile browser on my Asus Transformer TF101. I've let Opera know about it also, just giving you guys a heads up.
In Opera Mobile, can you click on the Opera logo button in the lower right corner of the screen and then click Settings? Sroll down and click "Advanced." The first option is User Agent. It should be set to Mobile. Is this the case for you, or is it set to Desktop? If it is set to Desktop, please change it to Mobile and try reloading the page. #broken(Edit comment)
the mobile option loads the article, but logging in and posting comments do not work. I've tried everything short of factory reset. The only reason why I am so annoyed with this problem is because I have been using your site on my Asus TF with Opera since February of last year without any problems and this started happening just last week during the whole CES flood. Opera themselves have not gotten back to me to let me know what the issue might be, hopefully they are working on a fix. I posted here only to inform you of the issue that not only I am having but a few other people are also having that I have talked to on multiple forums.
however I really do appreciate your help. Only wish I knew enough about coding to add my two cents into it. #broken
When it comes to commenting, our mobile sites currently do not support logging in and commenting. Those options are only available on our full version desktop site. Loading the desktop site on a mobile device like a tablet or a phone is hit-or-miss depending on the hardware, the system software, and the web browser. Are you experiencing the same issue in a browser other than Opera Mobile on your device? #broken(Edit comment)
Is there any particular reason I can never see comments on my netbook? I'm running Win 7 Pro on an HP Mini using both Firefox and Chrome, and on all of the Gawker sites I can not see any comments on any articles. I can post comments (the new comment dialog box does show when I click to start a new discussion) but can not see any existing comments. Everything works copacetic on my desktop running the same browsers with the same plug-ins. I've tried running both browsers in safe mode, and it's still the same. Any known issues?
Are they the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome? If not, try upgrading your browsers. If that doesn't work, try clearing your cache and deleting your cookies, restart your browsers and then try again. Let me know if this solved the problem or not and sorry for the inconvenience.
Yeah, they're the latest versions. I may have spoken too soon, though. It's possible it was a "location" error. The network I was on may have had some kind of filter that prevented comments from showing. I tested it against my home network and comments are working just fine.
Long story short, I think it's my problem, not Giz/Gawker's. #broken
Glad you found what was causing the issue! Regardless, if anything else comes up, please let me know! (send a message my way) Have a good one :) #broken(Edit comment)

(Edit comment)Picking blog view does not stick.

(Edit comment)Hello, I'm from the Gawker help desk-- I read your comment on pictures looking weird from your end-- would you mind sending me a screenshot as to what you are seeing? (posting it in your next comment, if possible). Let me know and sorry for the inconvenience.

(Edit comment)Let's see if that works...
And it looks like it didn't. Here's the URL: [www.flickr.com]
It's from a Jalopnik page but the effect is the same -the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the image is whited-out... (Edit comment)
Not running incognito - just with a color theme.

Hello,
Please disable Adblock Plus and the site will load fine. #broken
(Edit comment)I figured I'd also let you guys know, but for some reason all articles do not load up using opera mobile.

(Edit comment)Thanks for the heads up. Can you try accessing Giz using the following URL: [www.gizmodo.com?GSW=static<]>
Does this issue still persist in Opera mobile when you access that URL first? #broken
(Edit comment)the mobile option loads the article, but logging in and posting comments do not work.
#broken
(Edit comment)Is there any particular reason I can never see comments on my netbook? I'm running Win 7 Pro on an HP Mini using both Firefox and Chrome, and on all of the Gawker sites I can not see any comments on any articles. I can post comments (the new comment dialog box does show when I click to start a new discussion) but can not see any existing comments. Everything works copacetic on my desktop running the same browsers with the same plug-ins. I've tried running both browsers in safe mode, and it's still the same. Any known issues?

(Edit comment)Are they the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome? If not, try upgrading your browsers. If that doesn't work, try clearing your cache and deleting your cookies, restart your browsers and then try again. Let me know if this solved the problem or not and sorry for the inconvenience.
--from the Gawker help desk #broken
(Edit comment)Yeah, they're the latest versions. I may have spoken too soon, though. It's possible it was a "location" error. The network I was on may have had some kind of filter that prevented comments from showing. I tested it against my home network and comments are working just fine.
Long story short, I think it's my problem, not Giz/Gawker's. #broken
