Features Editor, Kotaku
About the Role
The features editor will expand Kotaku's "embed" program, so that we can authoritatively cover a wider range of games post-release using writers who know and play those games. The features editor will help pick beats of interest and will identify and edit fresh voices to regularly cover those games. This job is about making sure we tell stories that reflect games as they exist, as well as the communities that define those games, all without hype.
This is a leadership position reporting to Kotaku's editor-in-chief and working alongside our deputy and managing editors. A wide range of gaming expertise is essential, as is editing experience. We are looking for an editorial veteran who can work with new writers to improve copy and make it shine. Through your features purview, you will challenge expectations about what a gaming site should cover, whether it's the latest update to a big game, or the niche obsessions of a hardcore fandom. While this is primarily an editing job, all staffers are encouraged to write as much as they can and wish to. While not mandatory, we would prefer the Features Editor work with us in our NYC office.
