About the Role

Splinter, a site with a focus on news curation, social justice, and politics for a young, diverse audience, is in search of an energetic staff reporter to investigate leads, write and break news about the United States Department of Justice. The reporter will be responsible for developing sources and collecting, verifying and analyzing newsworthy information.     

Splinter -- part of the Gizmodo Media Group (GMG) -- is seeking sharp, well-sourced journalists to join our Editorial Staff. GMG is the wholly owned digital group of Univision, and the publisher of the web’s most original media brands, including Gizmodo, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Deadspin, Jezebel, Jalopnik, Splinter, and The Root. It is part of the larger Fusion Media Group network of sites, which also includes Univision.com, The Onion, The AV Club, and Clickhole, reaching ~85MM unique visitors a month.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • An ability to pitch and produce excellent, sharp, well-reported stories about the United States Department of Justice 
  • Keen instincts for news and creative/brilliant storytelling
  • The know-how to cultivate sources in and around the DOJ, AG office and affiliated organizations 
  • The stamina to doggedly contact, research and interview sources 
  • The ability to work efficiently and independently
  • Strong communication & organizational skills
  • The desire to join a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
