We're looking for the next Editor-in-Chief for Jezebel, the unflinchingly honest site for women’s conversations. We cover celebrities, sex, culture, fashion, and politics for women, and we do so without airbrushing. For 10 years, Jezebel’s coverage has paved the way for the rest of women’s media. We are savvy pop culture tastemakers who tell the truth about the fashion world, dispense progressive advice, profile real-life heroines, provide a realistic take on female aspiration and “wellness,” and cover politics with intelligence and wit.
We are part of Gizmodo Media Group, publisher of the web’s most original media brands, including Gizmodo, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Deadspin, Fusion, Jalopnik and The Root. As part of Fusion Media Group, we join a collection of sites including The Onion, The AV Club, and Clickhole, to reach some 100 million unique visitors a month — more than one-third of all Americans.
As we enter our second decade, Jezebel is looking for a fearless, forward-thinking leader who is deeply passionate about the future of women’s media. We need a dynamic pioneering visionary who can build on Jezebel’s legacy and success while charting a new direction forward for the site. What issues and stories are young women most passionate about in 2017 and beyond, and how should those stories be told? The right candidate will have a clear, bold vision for the next phase of the site’s expansion.
The ideal Jezebel editor has:
An innate understanding of and commitment to Jezebel’s fearless and impactful multimedia journalism.
Relevant management experience, working as a senior editor in a fast-paced, constantly evolving digital publishing journalism environment.
Impeccable integrity and ability to support Jezebel editors and writers, in making tough journalistic calls in fast-moving news cycles.
Skills to help develop and execute on ideas that can significantly expand Jezebel’s current audiences in a deeply collaborative, transparent setting.
Deep, applied understanding of the centrality of visual and audio journalism, digital video and social media to Jezebel’s storytelling.
Strong interpersonal and collaborative problem-solving skills.
Ability to juggle a vibrant daily newsroom’s many needs with ambitious, long-term projects.
A track record of discovering, attracting and grooming amazing talent.
If you think you are the right fit, please apply with a CV, a cover letter explaining why you are the next Jezebel editor, and a memo that shows us where you might take Jezebel in its second decade.
