The Man Paid to Punish Camera Lenses

There's a science to stress testing products beyond just whacking them with a hammer. Researcher Norbert Wittekindt is responsible for ensuring that Carl Zeiss camera lenses are sturdy enough for any environment, even space.

Wittekindt is the Head of Test Center for EMC and Environmental Tests for Carl Zeiss. To guarantee these lenses are up to snuff he subjects them to a wide battery of tests—110-degree temperature swings, accelerated vibration wear, and drops from various heights. But if the components can make it through Wittekindt's lab, they'll be able to survive just about anything. [PetaPixel via Cult of Mac]
