Iron man had the best special effects, but The Dark Knight was a better made movie. There weren't nearly as many special effects used, most of the stuff was real. I thought for sure TDK would win best picture (maybe just my own hopes) but it didn't even get nominated?! I'm tired of these touchy feely movies always winning that category. Granted, No Country For Old Men was amazing, it was still a very bleak movie. Reply

@Tariq Ismael: Agreed. The fact that TDK wasn't nominated for Best Movie or Best Director makes me think Chris Nolan got slapped in the face HARD and TWICE!! Reply

@Tariq Ismael: That's really all it takes to make an Oscar worthy movie: Bleakness.

Just make a bleak movie, or a bleakly heartwarming movie, or a heartwarmingly bleak movie, and you'll nominated for sure. Reply

@Tariq Ismael:

TDK was a great movie. But it was 40 minutes too long. As a MOVIE independent of Batman or Comic Book interest it was good but not anything truly exceptional.

If he had cut it down and made it more manageable then it might have been nominated. But a well made action movie that runs 45 minutes too long isn't really best picture material in my book.

It also didn't get me thinking days later. That's a good movie in my book. It had the "Is a vigilante justifiable" plot. But it got slapped on too late and was too distracted by Two Face. Two Face took TDK out of contention. The joker was so much better as a villain that we weren't interested in Two Face but the White Knight/Two Face sub plot is where the heart of the story was... so we were distracted by mostly pointless action that was sweet to watch and then in the last 30 minutes they remembered they were trying to make a "meaningful" film and put us back on track.

Again. Great fun to watch, but on a 'review' level I wouldn't say it deserves awards. Reply

@im.thatoneguy: There are a lot of levels where I can't disagree with you.

I've always thought that any time they try and do two villians the move suffers. They could of easily gotten two movies out of it. The Joker "twisting" Dent (while a great scene for Ledger to chew on) didn't need to happen. They could of saved that for the third film and given both concepts all the time they deserved. Reply
