On a related note, I am planning on upgrading to Leopard/iLife '09 for my Macbook. I have been contemplating an upgrade from 1GB to 4GB RAM.

For someone that will be using iMovie and Garageband extensively... Is it worth the ~$50 price tag to boost my RAM to 4GB, or is 1GB sufficient?

I wait patiently for guidance from my Gizmodo overlords/nerds. Reply

@Mike8813: if you were at 2GB I would say no, but being at only 1GB...for $50 it is a steal. I just checked Newegg and they have mac certified Kingston in a 4GB kit for under $50. I am at 1.5GB on my Penryn iMac and am going to order the kit to go to 4GB before I get iLife 09.

grab it cheap while you can. Reply

@Mike8813: check everymac.com to make sure you are getting the correct speed and amount for your version of the iMac. I checked and when I bought my iMac used it had 3rd party RAM in it that was only 667MHz but it should be using 800MHz RAM (and it can go to 4GB even though Apple only officially says it supports 3GB) Reply

@Seiven: Amazon.com has a Kingston 4GB package (667MHz to match my early '07 Macbook) for $44.99

Thanks for the tip on that website, it seems very useful. Reply
