I cant tell how it works since the video doesnt really show. Does it cut the hair or rip it out by the root? Either way its nothing new.

@Curves: it rips it out - there's no mechanical action going on. By bending the spring you're opening one side of it, while closing the other. The hair slides into the open side, gets caught by the closed side and summarily yanked out of your face.
It is, without a doubt, more painful than they are making it seem, and likely requires more force.
