Why does this Google app stop working when I get a phone call? The iPhone map apps can be used during a phone call which is very important when I am in a long call and driving.
This seems so half assed, I still have to carry my Garmin. Does Verizon intentionally block the app during a phone call? If so that sucks.

@vic.nospam: If you notice when you make a call on Verizon, your Evdo bars disappear and switch over to 1x. That's because Verizon can't do voice and data at the same time; you get one or the other. This doesn't happen with GSM technology, which is why you can use maps and call at the same time with the iPhone.

@vic.nospam: Hanlon's Razor man.
"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."
In this case, the stupidity is releasing apps which require a constant data connection on a network configuration (CDMA w/ EVDO) which cannot do data and voice simultaneously. Though I'm told future revisions of the standard will, it's kinda necessary now :/
And fyi, I'm a Sprint user, and my Pre's nav app has the same exact problem. #googlenavigator Reply

@GarciaConcern: What does verizon use? If they use cdma that's not the problem because on my Pre I've talked on the phone while simultaneously using the sprint nav app and pandora without it switching from ev to 1x. #googlenavigator

@Ramrod-the-Destroyer: If you're on Sprint then no, you have not. Pandora buffers a lot, and so does the Sprint nav app, so if you're only on the phone for a minute or two you might not notice, but you do indeed lose EVDO when on the phone. It's a well known issue with the currently implementation with EVDO itself.
And as I said, I too am a Pre owner and can attest to this. #googlenavigator Reply

@Cin: Sorry I didn't see your comment. It must be a damn fast switch then because I use pandora and the nav app constantly when I'm on deliveries at my job, and whenever I answer the phone both are running as if nothing happened when I get off. #googlenavigator
