Doing your own TV calibration via this THX method is by no means a legit way of doing it. You'll probably see no difference from this stuff.. Reply

@elryry: I thought the same thing when I got my TV. It really depends on the set, but in my case it makes a REALLY big difference when I'm watching movies or shows. Skin tones are just so much... better-looking? Reply

@elryry: We wouldn't have posted this—twice—if it had no value. Trust me, you can see the difference. Reply

@elryry: After the initial post on Gizmodo several months ago I ordered the glasses and used the THX method with great success. I ended up modifying the settings greatly from the default, and everyone agrees that the picture is stunning. No reason not to do it for the price of some glasses from THX. Can't believe others that have left comments that are still looking for an even cheaper route. Reply

@Wilson Rothman: I'm not at all discouraging the idea of TV Calibration. It's just every time I've seen someone do it themselves, it looks worse than it did right out of the box. On the other hand, I have seen it professionally done and had mine professionally done; this is on the other hand very impressive. A lot of people don't even know what contrast or a contrast ratio is (probably explaining why so many people purchased Walmart's Emerson special), yet alone adjusting it themselves. Reply

@elryry: Umm THX is the best kind of calibration you can preform. What does ISF do? Its a THX spec calibration. This is just allowing you to do a minor version. Minor in the sense that with a real THX calibration you need to plug into the TV's port and fiddle around with the base settings to achieve the picture you want, for each individual INPUT, with a nigh/day calibration for each INPUT/DEVICE.

This will show a difference especially if you neglect to use the TV's auto mode (some if not most TV's have this) or if you never bothered to change anything out of the box.
