I know it's not the way it works, but the only thing that makes sense is for Amazon to charge Washington state tax. When I buy something from Amazon, I've essentially "traveled" to Washington to make a purchase. After my purchase makes its way to my state, it's my responsibility to pay my state tax -- which I promptly do, every time. (Hey -- why did my nose just grow two inches?)

@PunditGuy: I'd be ok with that. I'm also not quite sure why we pay the sales tax for the place we live and not for the state where the internet company is located.

@PunditGuy: Wouldn't that result in you paying tax twice, once for purchase and again for transport?

@Gene: Technically, that's what states expect you to do now. Actually, I think it depends on the state. Here's Florida's info: [dor.myflorida.com] -- basically, if you paid less than the 6% that you would have paid in Florida, you owe Florida the difference.
