"well, i have two theories... 1) prime directive theory - an advance alien civilization is not allowed to interfere with the development of an alien species that doesn't exhibit some form of advanced technology (light speed travel, worm hole manipulation, etc.) 2) too primitive theory - the equivalent of walking to an ant hill and demanding to see their leader. i tend to believe both, that's why we don't see advanced intelligent life and just weather balloons."

"Paint Spray (for industrial applications) contains high volumes of xylene (same stuff in magic markers) and a full face with organic and particulate filter will work. a particulate respirator (disposable paper kind N95 rated) will not protect from this. for typical, run of the mill spray paint in a can you need to paint outside or in a well ventilated area (fans and open windows)as the airborne contaminates will make you a little light-headed. if you must paint in an enclosed area with spray paint, you need either a SCBA or supplied air respirator."
