Moore's Law is definitely in effect in lighting-land. Last vear's Versatube had an element (three LEDs - reg, green, and blue) every six inches. The last ones I saw had an element every inch. At this point the bottleneck in pixel density is the media servers you use to run the gear. Otherwise, the sky's the limit.

Doing a whole show with LEDs is a bold move, for sure; it would be hard for designers to abandon the familiar incandescent spotlight. Hopefully this will lead to concerts using less energy.

Among entertainment techs (film, TV, theatre, concerts) it's about 70/30 Leatherman to Gerber. Other essentials include the classic Mag-Lite (losing ground to LED-based penlights and tiny headlamps), and an adjustable wrench.

Nice ideas, all, but the winner will be the American version of Dr. Who. They'll make a two-hour pilot, patiently explaining to Americans what Dr. Who is and revealing his super-secret, yet bizzarely abundent, weakness. Jeff Goldblum wil be paired with alternating Olsens. The Tardis will resemble a PolyJohn but, hilariously, will have no working toilet.

Because of the length of the NCAA lacrosse playoffs, the season will actually start with Episode Five, a continuation of the cliff-hanger from Episode Four that was deemed too suspenseful to be a lead-in to the Celebrity Apprentice Rehab Island mid-season talent show.

Got ice but no salt? Roll the can (gently) on a bed of ice for, say, 20 seconds. The beer is agitated enough to evenly transfer its' heat out of the can.

You can't beat a CO2 fire extinguisher for sheer speed and manly satisfaction, but it is a little wasteful.

@MCU: Not so fast there. You have to negotiate "mechanical rights" (from an agency like Harry Fox) to reproduce and distribute copies of another artist's work. You can perform their songs live in concert, on radio or TV (ASCAP collects levies form the venues and broadcasters), but you need express permission from the song's publisher to sell copies.
