Basically, like MOST self-appointed alliances, they demand $$$$ for their "approval" system to work.
Ever hear of JD Powers? They gather information, approach the company on product and sell them the right to use their "JD Power" rating.
Extortion in a more professional and legal manner.

If you put out a great product, who needs someone else to tell you, "Yes, we approve so buy it!" I prefer my friends and other sources for "ratings"...

SigmundTheSeaMonster commented on Maybe Same-Sex Couples Won't Notice The Subaru Tribeca's Face! Had I seen that commercial "before" leasing a Tribeca, I would have went with the 4Runner. I have no problem with the original grill (Volvo designer) except it has killed a few deer already.
The AWD is superb (none best Subaru's...none) and it handles very well. But MPG is 18-21 (19avg). It took 300miles of highway to actually see the computer show 24mpg.
Whomever designed the LCD fuel guage never heard of polarized sunglasses. And the sunroof will wash out the display.
11 months left. Poor Subaru. Death by marketing.

SigmundTheSeaMonster commented on Biofuel Comparison Chart Highlights Hypocrisy Problems with Bio:
-Corporate patents
-food prices
-in-efficiency (more energy to produce than gain...)
-taxes

We pay more for ethanol but get less (sure, more uumph, but less value).
We will see price increases in food products (vegetable oils are in 80% of products).
States need to look at their roadway medians and harvest the waste clippings for fuel to power their fleets.

Conservation. Regulation. Rationing.

Ironic that folks still drive like gas is $1.50/gallon...
