@Keebler: Although its not advertised as such, the Logitech Mediaboard Pro (Bluetooth) appears to work fine on a mac based on various forum postings.

The Logitech Cordless Mediaboard has been out for over a year with the same features - Wireless Keyboard with built in touchpad.

They make two wireless versions, one via USB dongle, the other via Bluetooth (for PS3 compatibility).

The non-bt version sells for less than $50.

why not just buy a mini and install xp/vista on it if you really want a mini pc clone. The only thing this has up on the mini is a bigger hd and gigabit lan, but the mini is $100 less.

@ tommysez: Yes, but you don't always remember to eject the DVD right after watching it, say if you haven't finished the whole movie. Also, "who listens to audio CDs on their computer?" - I would imagine a great deal of people pop each of their audio cd's in their computer at least once, how else can you get your cd collection onto your iPod?

I'm more interested to find out what the poster is downloading in Transmission there... :)

HDMI (and DVI) have built in copy protection, doubt they would allow sling to partake anytime in the near future.

Also, to the poster above who has the Slingbox Pro + HD Dongle, this is a whole new ballgame. The Slingbox Pro + HD dongle can accept a high def input, but its output is far from true high def (I believe I read somewhere it was 640 x 480). This new box can sling true 1080i high def.

The X60 series (and previous gen) have been excellent sellers for IBM/Lenovo and all of them forgo an optical drive in favor of lighter weight and a smaller form factor.

I've had my x60 for 6 months now and I don't even miss the optical. I used it so rarely on my older T41, it just wasn't worth the added weight for me to carry it around. In the 3-4 years I owned my T41, i used the optical drive maybe 2-3 times.

With the delivery of software primarily over the internet, as well as the ability to quickly and easily dump dvd's onto your computer for a long trip (using an external drive before leaving), the need for an optical drive on you at all times has diminished for some users. Add to that the battery hit while spinning the optical drive while fully portable, and the savings add up.

Obviously, this wouldn't be a product meant for everyone. But for those who want ultraportable - lacking an internal optical might just fit the bill.

For me? I'm willing to wait and see what Apple has in store for us.
