They should just publish the home addresses of the people who put this stuff out, so some frustrated, angry nutjob can go to their house and KILL them and their families.

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on On DRM: Not Every Inconvenience is "the Plight of Sisyphus."]]> I don't mind DRM.

I mind DRM when it @#$@#'s with my OS.

The consumer has spoken. Sony's earlier DRM on their Audio CDs, and the previous versions of the current DRM on SPORE...

...they were both criminal, and they were not the least bit apologetic about it.

As a consumer, I'm making my choice.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Everyone Will Be a Walking Nuclear Weapon Detector]]> Actually it's a brilliant idea.

And because we're talking radiation detection, we can use the signals from multiple phones to eliminate false readings...

Considering the nature of the "small" nuke threat, I think it's got real potential from the technical side.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on XM25 Carbine Kills Bad Guys Behind Walls, Beyond Hills, Below Trenches]]> I't just a simple grenade launcher type deal. Nothing revolutionary.

They figured out that by launching these these things a little slower with air, you can be more accurate and lethal with it.

Like a short range mortar.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Pink Ribbon DS Lite Is an Insult to Cancer Funding]]> Ridiculous.

RED products involved marketing to push products THAT WEREN'T SELLING, like VISTA super-gigantic edition on the Dell laptops.

They ALREADY SELL ALL the DS Lites they can MAKE...

But they are now giving $5 to charity for these special editions, while not raising the price.

Repeat: They are NOT using the ribbon to sell more DS lites. The DS lites are already flying out the door. Just check the sales numbers.

What's to complain about?

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Sound Wave-Driven Liquid Lenses Good For Lightweight Future Phones, UAVs]]> Actually it's @#$@# brilliant. the lenses are actually distorting in real time, but the image sensor only records the images that are in focus.

I wonder if they could implement imaging tech like that on regular lenses... but have it work in multiple sections of the photo separately, to generate infinite depth of field. Like of those laser scanned micro-insect images they do, where they rack the focus while the laser illuminates, thus getting infinite depth of field.

Very, very cool.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Hillcrest Labs Sues Nintendo to Keep the Wii Out of America]]> They should have punitive countersuits against trolls like this. No way should companies get a free swing at the lottery by filing frivolous patent suits.

Everytime they dismiss with prejudice, they should make the company pay double damages on legal costs.

Great article.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Amazon Deletes All Spore Customer Reviews, Blames Site Glitch]]> I will never buy anything with a DRM that mucks with my OS.

Especially not after the history they have with audio CDs and DRM shenanigans.

They're scum.

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Lightning Review: Olinari Dog Tags Hold, Secure Your Flash Memory]]> The old one managed to both (1) look better (2) feel better and (3) have a lower price?

All both of those?

I agree. The old one seemed way better. This looks terrible, overpriced and useless.

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Vertical Squirrel Launcher Takes Furry Terror to New Heights]]> People doing it are obvious dirtbags, in their crappy fenced in backyard, using what amounts to a water balloon launcher to launch live animals into the air because that's what dirtbags do.

It's very easy for these drunk screwups to injure the squirrel in this process without even getting it launched, and the thing is flying past some electrical wires on the way up and the way down (that's probably intentional).

The only "innovation" here is that they are being cruel to an animal and posting it on youtube.

In the video they posted, the animal didn't get hurt, but they probably injured others.

-

Even if the videomakers didn't kill one, I'm certain the clueless imitators will eventually kill a squirrel.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Vertical Squirrel Launcher Takes Furry Terror to New Heights]]> It would be funny if they weren't terrifying some random, small animal...

Launching squirrels to that height can kill them, absolutely. I've seen kids do such stunts with small animals like hamsters, squirrels, and cats in the past, and usually the animal comes out relatively uninjured, but sometimes they snap their spine.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on PS2 Gets 1:1 Swordfighting Game Using EyeToy]]> If you've ever actually used the eyetoy (or even more sophisticated software for trying to analyze a video image for where to put the sword), you'll realize that this will be absolute garbage. From a math standpoint, it's simply too hard to accurately track what you're trying to track (unless you use multiple "ping pong balls" for motion capture, at least TWO cameras, but better with THREE, and a computer with more power than 10 PS2s...).

Eyetoy games are meant to amuse small children or the simple minded adult. What a joke.

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Why Apple Is Sticking With Intel Chipsets (Probably)]]> Lose the ability to run microsoft office, and most major business applications?

Apple needs to focus on leveraging their Iphone/Ipod market penetration and integrating it with their Macs in a way that synergizes big-time.

They can't be wasting their time trying to switch chipsets to eek out 3 or 5% more graphicmegaflopdoohickeys, which will not affect sales by even 1%, but will suck up massive amounts of cash and time, re-writing the CORE of OS-X, and fixing bugs (while losing sales because they don't dual boot, and won't run microsoft office for 6 months or maybe ever again.

It was a laughable rumor.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Buy Your Own V22, Kinda: Bell 609 Civilian Tiltrotor Gets Rolled-Out]]> Civilian helicopter safety records already make me sick to my stomach.

The safety record of hospital survival flights is even worse.

-

I strongly suspect that the safety record of this baby will end up being worse than those. And I agree, that finding a great pilot is more critical than anything. That would cost an arm and a leg.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on First Look At Terminator 4's Underwater Kill-Bots]]> 4th sequel? I always check the director on this type of thing.

Director is McG.

That's his whole name. To me that is definitely a concern. He directed Charlie's Angel's full throttle, We are Marshall, and the pilot for Chuck.

But anything is better than the wannabe-ness that was T3.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Gigabyte's Cool Rain Memory Cooler Was Blade Runner Prop in Past Life]]> Ugly imho.

But everybody has different taste.

Does anybody have a computer case mod that's basically a vertical column with air intakes along the bottom and chimney out the top, and lets convection pull the heat out the top?

It would be pretty stylish, and if you set it up right, probably go easier on the internal fans too... setup all the heat sinks (CPU, memory, graphics cards) to be vertically oriented blades.

Getting the card slots vertical with the MB vertical at the same time might be hard but a custom board would allow it.

Align the drives, CDs and HDs vertical, stacked?

Internal Cable management you'd have to play with of course to maximize vertical air flow. Might put the internal HD and power cables come out the BACK of the mother board or something would make it easier.

If you make the case clear, I bet you could make it look really gorgeous internally too.

Is there a reason that wouldn't work?

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Mobile Light is Solar Powered]]> They've had those for years... they're called solar lawn lamps and you can buy them anywhere. Solar panel, LED light, sensor, poiny end:

I've actually been waiting for years for them to finally repackage a Lawn Lamp into a stylish indoor package...

And I'm still waiting.

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on New Gigantic StarCraft II Screens]]> Graphics will be incredible.

The thing about Blizzard games is that the actual animated game looks a million times better than the screen shots because the physics, the kinematics, and choices they make in animation.

Graphics are not a static thing.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on British Protecting Local Textards by Padding Lampposts]]> I vote "fake".

But what do I know? I've seen people texting in crazy situations, but if people were really running into poles, they'd probably be walking into traffic on a regular basis too.

The real problem is the losers who text while driving. How do you pad for THAT?

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Wristwatches Banned in College-Entry Exams Thanks to One Lousy Cheater]]> At the national testing centers they use for medical boards, etc., they make you give up all your electronics. OBVIOUSLY a watch or cellphone will be able to potentially be loaded with data...

And what do you need your watch for in a test?

They have special lockers set up to lock your wallet, watch, etc. in anyway., along with fingerprint sensors to enter and leave the room.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Joyrider, Possibly the Most Expensive LED Spoke Lights in the World]]> Yeah, if you think these are overpriced, you should see what they charge for the car rims that have spinning LED displays on them... each wheel costs more than that bike.

Meanwhile it's $37.50 like you say to make this board for a regular bike.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Data Encryption Easily Broken Using Keys Hiding In RAM]]> This reminds me of how NSA demo'd how to get into the memory of a smart card by physically microdrilling a hole into the physical card, and reading the registers...

-

In the case of volatile RAM though, Why not simply run a shutdown bot that zeros the system RAM whenever you shut down the OS? That would take a good programmer about 30 minutes to write, right?

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Audiophile Deathmatch: Monster Cables vs. a Coat Hanger]]> Put it another way, Trikekid. If electricity traveled "over" wire, then they wouldn't bother to put make copper wires. We could just save billions of dollars by making nylon wires, and coat them with copper.

]]>
<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Audiophile Deathmatch: Monster Cables vs. a Coat Hanger]]> Electricity travels "over" wire, and not through it?

What kind of physics is that?

Electricity travels THROUGH wires. That's why the cross sectional area of a wire is a factor in resistance.

And peegee, you're missing the point and you're not "raining" on anybody's parade. People were just joking about using coat hangers in the future. The point of the article was that the special machining and design & materials of the super-expensive monster cables did not improve audio quality enough to differentiate it from soldered, non-exacting quality, coathangers.

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Harrison, Molyneux Agree - Controllers Are Too Complicated]]> Good thinking there guys. It took you this long to figure that out?

That was the LAUNCH PITCH of the Wii 15 months ago.

It's not that controllers are too complex to learn if they were an essential survival tool like a car. People learn to drive stickshift. People master 25 step directions driving from home to work... and it becomes second nature after a lot of repetitions.

Controllers are too complex to learn, when they're only going to be used 3 times a month by a person who isn't that into playing videogames.

It takes countless hours of use before a person really can use a typical multibutton controller without having to break their immersion in the game.

Videogame controllers remind me of DOS.

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Backstory and Teardown of the Lenovo X300 (Components By Weight!)]]> Jeez...

1) Lenovo makes the IBM branded laptops and have for years.

2) That keyboard is not the one on the X300. It's just from when they were spitballing ideas.

3) IBM laptops have the best keyboards in the business.

4) The X300 has a built in optical drive, and is much faster than the MBA.

They target different audiences. The X300 is nice looking, if a bit conservative.

<![CDATA[dcartist commented on Sony Donates to New Orleans Children's Hospital]]> videogames are awesome for children's hospitals.
