thechansen commented on What Would You Like Giz to Explain? @frigg:
I meant that Ray Kurzweil is fucking nuts in the most endearing way possible.
My top 5 idols goes something like:
1) Bowie/Tesla (or even Bowie AS Tesla)
2) Kurzweil
3) Hawking
4) Lt. Columbo

But aside from that, I don't see why I couldn't just mooch knowledge off my friend who's in school for EET and do some small programs and projects on the side. I know C/C++ and I've been working on Obj-C, he can teach me Java and C#.
But I have a good amount of debt (not all of it is technically mine, she robbed me and ruined my powerbook) and even with moving back to my parents, I cant afford to move out again or go to school full time. It has to be part time school and full time work. Even lower ranked law schools (I did OK on my LSATs and my GPA was just over a 3.2, I'm realistic but I also don't buy into the elitism that if the school isn't top 40 that you aren't getting a job I will gladly take a public sector job in the mid $40s to start) are in the $15-20k a semester range. So I need to continue my 6 and 7 day work weeks until I have enough saved up. Gadget purchases have suffered dramatically and I think its best that "I want" rather than "I get". Also the internet is wayyyyyy cheaper than real counseling.

thechansen commented on What Would You Like Giz to Explain? @geedots: There's always substitute teaching. Its the only fucking job I've found since graduating that doesn't require a masters. Between that, and my two other jobs I make as much as a first year teacher. Which means I live in poverty and only manage to have cash by not being able to have time to spend it. Now I gotta bite the bullet and apply to grad schools/law schools so I can get a job in a field that will make me miserable. I almost want to go back and get a programming degree. I'm having to much fun with my arduino and I think I made a poor choice in majors.

thechansen commented on Creative Releasing $100 Vado Video Camera? my number one use for the flip, is set it up in the corner of the classroom and turn it on when the kids start to act like assholes. So I have undisputable proof that they were little dbags and then I let the detentions flow like water and the admins don't have to question why. Plus I can ask a kid his name and he will 99% of time, lie. I always carry a camera of some sort for this reason. I used my point and shoot when I caught a kid keying (well he had a circular saw blade or something like that) another teachers car. Saved the teacher his insurance deductable and got rid of the kid for 2 week.

thechansen commented on NBC Coming To Zune After Ditching iTunes Even with waning iPod sales (mostly due to market saturation), you still have a saturated market. So the guy who has the 5th gen and has bought a few seasons of shows may not buy the 6th or 7th gen but he may buy a 8th or 9th gen iPod so he can still bring his TV and Movies from iTunes with him. I still put episodes of the office on my iPhone, and I would buy an iPod in the future because I have macs and a shit load of content from iTunes.

thechansen commented on NBC Coming To Zune After Ditching iTunes NBC, I had no problem with $1.99 an episode. Now you want to charge me more for something I could have watched for free? You guys are real dicks. I was getting over the air HD for the Office and recording it with my EyeTV. Then after getting fed up with crashes I switched to no cable and no anttenna: Just iTunes (and the occasional torrent or streamed video). I would have never seen some of the shows offered by NBC/Universal if it wasnt for iTunes (House isn't even on your network and you had to take that away????). You're dicks and Microsofts a bunch of dicks for letting you strong arm the industry. But with the economy hurting and people holding on to their cash a little tighter, raising prices higher than all the other competion is certainly the carrot on the stick that a new market needs to succeed. MORANS!

thechansen commented on How to Buy a Digital Camera and Ignore Expensive Hype This needs consumerist and gizmodo cross-gawker lovin'. Extremely useful info for digicam buyers. Personally I set limits, $150ish for a point and shoot, $800 for DSLR body, and as many lenses as I can buy for as cheap as I can get them. $150 for a pocket digicam goes a long way. SD1000 can be had for that much which I consider THE pocket digital camera (even though I went with a Nikon S210)
