TiVo to Pimp Their Subscribers to Amazon
Bad news for TiVo subscribers—the company is about to reach for new levels of advertising debauchery. If you thought those banners in the TiVo menu system were bad, know that the company is about to take things a big step further and invade actual television programming with Amazon as their partner. From the NY Times: More » -

State of The Infinite Format War: Get Ready for Five Long Years of Set-Top Battle Royale
One year ago, we predicted that the infinite format war would rise from the ashes of the HD DVD/Blu-ray format war—that a million online services and set-top boxes would suddenly promise to deliver movies and video to your computer or TV. And that each one would essentially be their own format, since none of them are compatible, and each would promise only a fraction of available movies. We were right about our fears, but we also have a solution to a decent download collection.

TiVo Cheats on Amazon for Disney Content
While TiVo's offered Amazon Unbox downloads for some time, apparently TiVo isn't opposed to playing the field. The company just signed another video on demand partner, Cinemanow, to bring in Disney content. Their library is tiny with only 1,500 titles and we're not certain whether TiVo will only be accessing their Disney content. But there are two things we really like about this deal. More » -

HD Content Confirmed For Amazon Unbox!
TiVo has officially confirmed that Amazon Unbox will get HD content in the near future, but execs at the company say a few kinks need to be ironed out first. The current version of Unbox can't process HD content, and availability is limited by bandwidth constraints—something cable companies are in the process of solving. If a previous customer survey is to be trusted, an HD movie rental will cost $4.99, the same as iTunes. [Zatz Not Funny! - Thanks Dave]

Amazon Unbox Now Directly on TiVo, No PC Required
[Update] Living up to Amazon Unbox's name and TiVo's reputation, the two finally ditched the requirement of a PC to browse and select titles, and introduced a video-download service that exists entirely on the TiVo itself, allowing you to rent and buy movies and television shows. Movie rentals will range from $1.99 to $3.99, movie purchases from 9.99 to 14.99, and TV shows will cost $1.99 per episode. Don't worry about storing too many of your purchases on your TiVo's hard drive: Like the Xbox video service, Amazon keeps your purchases on record, and lets you download them whenever you want from its server. When Amazon Unboxed TiVo: The FAQ

Breaking: Tivo Boxes to Download Amazon Unboxed Videos
Amazon and TiVo just made me wet my pants with what could be a killer app in the digital video distribution arms race: TiVo Series 3 and 2 set top boxes will be living room conduits for content from Amazon's Unbox video download service. This is the first single box solution that intermingles downloadable broadband video and traditional TV in one place. With TiVo's amazing UI, user base (1.5 million), and Amazon's selection (4 out of the big 6 studios) these guys are going to have a serious setup. But the tech is in beta, so they're not really launching anything, with only a select group of a couple hundred customers getting the first taste. Clearly, this is a response to Mega-corp Walmart's online video download service announced just 24 hours ago. More » -

Amazon Taking Unbox to TiVo?
Word around the hood is that Amazon and TiVo are currently in talks for movie distribution on the TiVo. If you recall, earlier this month Amazon launched their Unbox video download service. Yahoo is reporting that the service would transfer Amazon movies to the TiVo set-top boxes, but personally I think the service would stream the videos to the TiVo—you know, to avoid the DRM anal rapage.
