Actual Google Phone Rumors Revived: Designed by Ammunition Group

Talk about a single, branded GPhone more or less died down after the announcement of Android, but it seems that you just can't completely kill a good rumor. According to TechCrunch, an Android phone made by Google may actually become a reality, based on two new bits of information—the first being a quote in The Hollywood Reporter from a press conference with Larry Page, Sergei Brin and CEO Eric Schmidt. Update: Silicon Alley Insider says the quote is actually inaccurate, noting none of the other major news orgs there picked it up. More »

Android Running on a Nokia N95 Offers Lessons on Taking Video

By the looks of the following videos, someone has managed to get Android working on a Nokia n95 in one form or another. During the videos we can (sort of) see a dual boot Android / Symbian setup, Google maps running and a voice call being made. However, like most UFO footage and Bigfoot sightings, the video quality is absolutely hideous—which does nothing but generate skepticism. So the lesson here is if you have a genuine breakthrough that you want to catch on film, get a decent camera to do the job. More »

Android Will Have an App Store Like the iPhone

This is good news: It looks like Android will have a one-stop shop for applications, making it easy for developers to get their goods out there and users to pick 'em up. While the "Android Store" isn't confirmed, project lead Andy Rubin said at the Google I/O developer conference yesterday:
"It would be a great benefit to the Android community to provide a place where people can go to safely and securely download content and where a billing system would allow developers to get paid for their effort...We wouldn't have done our job if we didn't provide something that helps developers get distribution."

Mystery No-Name HTC Revealed In Pic

The phone blogs are abuzz with this sighting of HTC's lineup, showing both existing models and a mystery or two on the bottom row. Boy Genius thinks the first, third and fourth are the same, but I'm wondering if the first is a slide-out key version of the second (a P3470), while the third and fourth are something else entirely. In any case, it's a peculiarity that will hopefully be clarified soon, as it's also a damn nice looking phone. WinMo, Android or whatever, we'll be ready to have a look. Android Beta Running on AT&T Tilt

The Windows Mobile hackers over at XDA forums seem to have gotten Android working on an AT&T Tilt (HTC TyTN II), meaning that eventually you might be able to get an Android phone working without actually buying a particularly "Android" phone. The stability is pretty nonexistent, but you can see that it actually works insofar as you can load it up on top of Windows Mobile and do stuff with it. Entirely replacing the phone with Android's ROM is another story, but if anyone can do it, the nerdlingers on XDA can. [XDA Developers via WM Experts via Boy Genius]

Android Running on a Nokia N810

We've seen Android running on some phones before, but none of them have gotten us as psyched about the upcoming OS as seeing it on Nokia's powerhouse N810 internet tablet. It just looks plain slick. We can't wait to get our hands on a more complete version of Android, especially if we get to do so on hardware like the N810.
