In case you were wondering what the Linksys Not-Apple-iPhone looks like, here is one of them, the Wireless-G WIP320 Phone, which is Skype compatible. It's likely going to be functionally identical to the many others we've tested, except with a mode that will let it scan for WiFi access points before completely booting, and larger buttons.
The other is the CIT400, that can hit up a land line or act as a stand alone wireless Skype phone.

boooring.
Wow, looks so retro. I bet they will sell, like, *DOZENS* of them!
So, is this the iPhone Brian Lam was talking about last week?! God. I feel so cheated, like someone came into my house and stole my christmas tree. And the gifts. But left the sh***y little star from the 70s.
this phone is a jerk.
You must know what they are saying about this post, and specifcally you, all over the web right now, so the only thing I will say, is that goddamn, I have to agree with them. Muchas Gracias Gizmodo, this will be have to be the last time we see each other. Hasta lleugo!!!
But will it blend?
Many sites reposted this information for the iphone announcement, echoing this sites claims of the iphone. I bet your saying to yourselves, HEY WE DID A FUNNY!
LOL.
Tough Crowd
Are they really going to call it the iPhone? After all of this hype, I think it's a bit tacky for any other company than Apple to use the name...
hahaha...this put a smile on my face this morning. Thanks, Cisco! :)
Looks a little bit like a Harmony Remote if ya squint at it sideways in the right light.
-but you can't count on that light.
I'm amazed Apple didn't already trademark 'iPhone', or maybe they did and litigation is in the air.......
"Tough Crowd"
Indeed. I thought this whole thing was pretty funny! Now 90% of the readers are bashing Gizmodo like crazy.
So 90% of Giz readers are Apple fan boys? They are the one pissed about this not the rest of the readers...
Rockyhead
The hype is from Apple Fanboys...luckily Apple DOESN'T have the right to put 'i' infront of any other noun and call it theirs.
Congrats to Linksys for playing off the whole iPhone buzz and getting their product out to market to take advantage of it.
In the end...iAm very sick of all the iStuff anyway.
Why are the buttons on these Wifi phones always so edgy...it looks like a toy phone my nephew would play with.
bring out the bandolier of carrots.....sux
i feel used and slightly dirty. next time just stab me in the heart and set me on fire.... ps...Apple-not-cicso-iphone-but-won't-be-called-iphone-unless-they-want-a-massive-law-suit-and-end-up-paying-cisco-millions will be awesome!!!
"iPhone" (where the 'i' stands for internet) makes much more sense in this case, as Linksys phone does WiFi and Skype. I have doubts Apple's proposed phone does either.
"The hype is from Apple Fanboys..."
Uh, yeah and the the Associated Press and Canada's National Post and Morgan Stanley and CNN/Fortune and Diggnation and CNET...
Woot! I'm glad someone else took the stupid iphone name. Let's see what Apple can think up next!
iStuff is soooo 90's...
News Flash: Apple will release what they are calling the aPhone. Because, you know, it's just aPhone.
Price point still around $200. I'm sure this second gen is an improvement, but it's time that price came back down to earth. I wanted to buy even the first one, but my wallet still says no.
I don't get all the new Mobile WiFi skype devices. Are there really that many open access points around to make this thing even remotely useful out side of my house?
Actually, I could have sworn that they did, which was one of the ways people discovered they were considering making one, but obviously that's not the case. I'm no Apple fan, but I'm still fairly interested to see what the Apple not-an-iPhone thing is.I'm based in Paris (france) and i am so surprised by what happened. What Brian Lam did on friday about the "IPhone" is just amazing !!! How can you tolerate that kind of behaviour from somebody who is supposed to be a journalist. Personnaly, i will never trust anymore what is written on gizmodo, wether it on the french or the us web site. From now, i just see gizomdo as a personnal blog where a few people writte what they want without considering the audience. I feel very bad as a reader. And i would like to be an advertiser of this web site.
iLaughed bigtime!
Modano...
Exactly my point. Thanks.
Why would a WiFi phone need a base like that. Also, do you mean CIT300?
Oops, didn't realize it was two phones, sorry.
look out for the eye-Phone (with camera of course)
Apple's probably going to stick with the lowercase i and swing for a name like "iChat mobile" or "iChat portable", or follow suit with their laptops and say Mac is the new i, so maybe MacPhone with new OS X smartphone edidion?
Big deal...I have been using my pda with pocket pc and skype on wifi for over a year...My ipaq does way more than some stupid iphone...Can it play movies, surf the web, play mp3,and all the other crap a pda can? I doubt it...Over rated junk...phh
