Apple has just dropped three new commercials in the Get a Mac series. The adverts have the same old Mac Vs. PC theme, but they are still funny. Plus, no one has shouted us down for being fanboys for at least four posts straight. That, quite frankly, is unacceptable. So, here we are showing some Apple love and giving their new shoots some space. Truth be told, Mac and PC are both such douches, we don't really want to own either, but hell, they do make us chuckle. Jump in for two more.
We see what is so appealing about Ubuntu; it lives the trouble free life. We just can't stand this rivalry, it makes our hearts hurt. Who are we kidding? We love it. "Ask not what Vista can do for you, ask what you can buy for Vista." Classic.

anyone notice the white apple logo on teh imac instead of them being black?
I own both platforms and have never found these ads enjoyable.
And the whole downgrading thing isn't so poignant when people are downgrading their iPhones.
I will have to its not fanboyism, its love! lol, i love the fact that MAC is excited they are selling like hotcakes and their sales went up, but not because of computers but because of the I-Pod and the I-Phone. Even though Mac is still down by billions of dollars compared to PC. I think they have a new commercial with Vista running on a Mac and how well it runs lol, but i guess that might backfire, maybe. I will stick with my PC because i like to be able to customize my computer how i want and not pay extra for the one click crap lol.
*Smells a long & nasty "Vista" or "OSX" sucks! thread in 3.....2......1.....
0!
Vista or OSX sucks!
So how many problems has the new iMac had since launch date??
condensation, bad screens, baby parts found inside....?
Same old ads different day. Time for something new I say. Stop flogging a dead horse.
I own both Mac and Windows computers (and i love mu Macbook Pro) but these ads are silly.
at first, all three commercials were playing simultaneously, which i cracked up at like a little monkey; seemed to be completely absured.
then i scrolled down, and watched each one, one by one; they're growing more and more tired and resentful sounding, even.
hey whatever works, right? i for one am completely happy with my 4 year old machine, (midrange back then) with a brand new and completely legal install of vista business - which i didn't pay for. (thanks msdn!)
(athlon xp 2800, 1gb, 120gb ram, custom-built in an antec sonata)
Printer works fine -- it's just all those Adobe apps I need to upgrade for Leopard...
the three videos playing at the same time is really annoying.
@foureight84: Agreed, what the hell?
So no one is going to say it? Fine, I'll do it.
You're all damned apple fanboys, giz.
More annoying though is the idea that Apple is trying to sell, being that they are so much different as far as the hardware is involved. Justifying the point that when you do buy a mac, you buy hardware as well. Which is perfectly fine if your buying say a laptop, but for a desktop computer its moronic. Secondly, they're both PC's by the definition of PC being a personal computer. This is all about software, let the best OS win, except Apple refuses to level the playing field. Meh, annoying.
I like mac ads, although they didn't get one thing right. In a recent survey, the average Mac user seemed to be 55. So have fun mac users, with your boring old people OS. Yea you can't get viruses, but that's just because your world wide market share is 2%. That's like saying that a Rolls Royce is a safer vehicle than a Ford cause people die every day in Fords, and RR drivers never seem to die...
yeh, white apple logo... strange
sorry... it must just be a reflection ;)
Fuck you Steve Jobs, and your smug apple fanboys.
LOL, is that fresh Banhammer bait I'm smelling here?
Anyways, I don't really like those ads, but Apple is really great on the marketing department. Also Macs are great for marketing people.. maybe there's a connection there?
I mean, really... Macs doesn't even have what? 5% market share? Am I wrong?
Still, the fanboy wars goes on and on.
Not that I'm saying that more users=better. I personally think that lots of people suffering with Windows PCs should really switch to Macs, or even limited Linux distros that'll allow them to do only like the half dozen stuff they need a PC for...
2.4% to 3.2% market share in a year. Good going Mac, at this rate you might have the majority share in 80 years.
Fix it so all the videos don't autoplay! =O
I love walking into the computer lab at my university with 10 brand new iMacs and 150 Dells from 2001. There's a wait for the Dells while the iMacs go unused. It's awesome, for me anyways.
I switched to Mac about 2 years ago, and I'll never go back.
I want to put Leapard on my pc. Honestly, I've got Vista running on my macbook, it would be nice to have my workstation capable of the same thing as well.
These were more sad than funny. The way they are trying to portray MS, as struggling and wrapped up in the whole competition thing, is exactly how Apple comes off with these ads.
The boxing one got me actually laughing out loud... and Cylons don't laugh !
Take it easy guys. Haroon Malik is probably just very very new to this posting thing and don't know how to post properly yet.
...or not. :)
nope, unfortunately its the same old annoying ads. it actually makes mac users look like uber assh*les
I think these are great. on my mac the videos don't all 'start at once'. I am sure that would be pretty scary.
In the early years many said that apple did not market its product aggressivly enough. Now Mac has the apples to get out there and speak and occasionally push the truth. I have had a PC and a Mac plugged into my monitor and keyboard for ten years and I think that the fact that I stick with XP and really desire Leopard says something. apple should strut because they deserve it. Toys, computers, and software simply kick ass. The apple fanyboy's have it all over the bunches of haterboy sour grapes any day.
autoplay=OFF please.
How obnoxious.
First one's great, the ending of the second one's nice and the 3rd one sucks.
apple's too constricting if you dont like windows use linux. I hate how apple tries to make themselves look good by making these comercials when microsoft makes a better product.
I thought these advertisements were great when i first started seeing them. But now, apple come off like a bunch of whiney school kids.
The fact they have a go at vista users downgrading to xp, is the worst advertising idea i have seen recently. People downgrade for greater compatibility.. (play games/larger hardware support/more software).. Pretty much emphasizing the point that thousands upon thousands of people would rather use an old operating system than even consider an apple, because apple has the same problems (poor hardware support/software support/game support)..
all in all, the suckiness is strong in these ones.
meh... time for something new in terms of advertising. these were funny when they first started, but i'm pretty much over them now
@Sir_NightSky: Wait a bit- OSx86 Leopard will become a lot easier to install in the future. I'm still on Tiger because the installation instructions are too confusing. Even better, some new hacking work has allowed people to install OS X (mostly) unmodified on newer computers (Core 2 Duo and up).
My excuse for not buying a Mac? They're too fragile. I did $1000 of damage to a 15in Powerbook from lugging it around in a normal school year. My new Panasonic ex-PC? None. I'll buy a Mac when Apple makes a Mac Toughbook. Until then, I'm find with OSx86.
Fanboys! There, feel better?
I love Leopard. Lots and lots. At work we still haven't switched to Vista. My boss has a lappy with Vista to test it out.
Apple doesn't have a server OS, and that will forever keep its OS in second place by a large margin.
I'm sure that the 2%s are happy that they are not getting as much viruses, trojan horses, and what ever other malware types that are available on Windows, but that also means that the number of software applications for the MAX is also small compared to Windows.
So 2% of the OS population can go ahead and enjoy these fictitious commercials as a substitute for what they can't have in reality.
Correction: MAC and not MAX
@mqasem:
Mac OS X Server isn't a server OS? Really?
i love buying new gear as much as the next geek. bought myself a lovely pc at the beginning of this year which i upgraded to vista premium. it all worked swimmingly for a while. then i decided to get a lovely vista certified media center keyboard set to use it for what it was originally intended. guess what? it didn't work. all the customer support over the phone (five hours in total) got no result and even the top of the range keyboard and mouse which they replaced it with refused to work. the pc could not recognise a vista certified product. i became a mac owner by default. i am currently downgrading to xp and my wife and i have just bought a mac together. vista was pretty and painful. kind of like my first teenage crush. it was all bound to end in tears.
@Zadillo: there's no logical reason for using mac server software over what people are already using, so why spend the extra money to switch? that's the important consideration.
What I don't understand is why anyone in the PC world even bothers to comment. If Macs are an irrelevance, ignore them.
Stupid apple. I love it how MS just does there job and succed while apple creates lie's and still fails.
@nojo: I didn't have to update any Adobe apps to run Leopard... but thanks for the FUD, db.
Linux FTW!!!, Doesn't all this smack talking by apple upset people... Operating Systems are turning into politicians, They lie about a bunch of features, bad talk eachother, get installed, and then suck.
I purchased Vista Ultimate when it came out and installed it on relatively new hardware -- Windows Update managed to screw my system (NVIDIA driver issue, I think), so I did revert back to XP. Now, a handful of months later, I loaded Vista again and it seems to work great. I don't own a Mac, so I can't speak for Leopard, but if you sit back and honestly take assessment of all the things you can do with a PC, it's actually pretty staggering. The platform is versatile, which is why you see more issues with PCs, because complexity is much harder to maintain that simplicity.
its monday haroon...trying to reach into the OT cookie jar?
First commercial, in my opinion, crap. My computer is dual booting XP and Vista Home Premium, and I haven't been on XP...for a good few months now. Vista works amazing for me. And plus, My MacBook Pro with OS X "doesn't work the way I want it to". Last point, my printer works fine in XP and Vista, but not on Mac :P
Second commercial, ya know, I don't see the big deal with Leopard. So, it's got a shinier dock, those "stacks" things, coverflow EVERYWHERE, and system restore...I'm not impressed.
I don't care enough to comment on the third one. Wait, no, I lied. For the last one, that's total BS. Saying this "isn't a competition", if it wasn't a competition, why are you making these ads, Apple?
One last point, this one for Gizmodo. You claim that they are "still funny". In my opinion, for something to be "still funny" that means they actually had to be funny at all at some point.
btw-season 2 of Mac vs. PC ads is already getting old
I like the PR girl... "And what he means by giving the finger to Steve Jobs is that early iPhone adopters that paid the initial price of $599 paved the way for hundreds of thousands of new, happy iPhone users and AT&T subscribers when Apple dropped the cost by $200."
@PRO7:
Actually, that's not the best analogy. I would bet that in one on one crash tests the RR would do better than most fords. At least the older ones that were hand made. But I'm nitpicking, I get your point....
@TheDoomer:
Well said.
