This is probably the first time the word "sexy" has ever been used to describe a washing machine—but this concept piece from designer Simona Luculano is definitely worthy of such an adjective. Unlike traditional washing machine eyesores that must be hidden in a garage or behind sliding doors, the Flexible Distance washing machine could actually be used as a decorative piece.
Plus, it is as functional as it is attractive, with touch controls on the outer ring of the wash well and an LCD screen on the lid to monitor the progress of your crusty underwear. It even conforms to low power and water consumption standards—or at least it would if it ever made it into production. [Yanko Design]

yes but is there an iPod dock?
I'm amazed at these appliances they are coming out with. Like the Samsung refrigerator I saw that had a detachable TV. Crazy stuff.
Sexy Garbage Pail!
Garbage in - less garbage out!
the top-loading type of washing machine uses more water than the ones that spin horizontally though.
@willyolio:
Not to mention the agitators ruin your clothes. I'll stick to my front loaders.
@willyolio:
That was my thought, as well. It might look pretty, but technology-wise having a top-loading washing is like coming out with a next gen phone and putting a last-gen network speed on it. (Not naming any names, mind you.)
Do they levitate off the ground?
Undocumented feature: it plays "Also Sprach Zarathustra" while it plants the seed of cleanliness.
Wow, I'd like to dump a load into that thing.
I dunno why but if i had it i would but a Darth Vader helmet on a shelf on top of it :D
@Bllo:
i'd put 1/4 scale monkeys with femurs in their hands in front of it a la 2001: A Space Oddysey
Re: Used as a decorative piece
That is until you realize you have to pay $5000 to plumb unsightly water and sewage lines into your den.
It'd be cool if it had a deep electronic voice that said "Your load is complete; now please remove. You have 10 seconds to comply"
@nutbastard:
My god, it's full of socks...
I have an LBFM doing my laundry. It doesn't get much sexier than that.
@lastpulse: "They" aren't coming out with this. Its a concept that isn't ever slated for production, just like the rest of the dreamland stuff on Yanko.
Hey guys.... Darth Vader called, he wants his washing machine set back.
I'm sold.
@Chiper: Not to mention the X amount you will have to pay to repair the water damage if the drain hose leaks.
But does it work with iTunes?
That would be at home on the Death Star.
I'm picturing Lord Vader washing a cape. I'm laughing.
Mmm. I want a front-loading washer/dryer combo with this theme.
@willyolio: Yea, I thought all teh sexy ones are front loading nowadays?!?
front load will be sexier and smarter.
@dysthymia: While Wide Load will be the model most people will end up purchasing.
Am I the only one who hears the 2001: Space Odyssey when looking at these?
Think of all the lint that's gonna catch on that thing. PS3 x 100!!!!
@Satyagraha: My God! It's full of clean clothes.
Yeah, I heard it too.
