If you love the great big skies as much as we used to love the iPhone (oh, it hurts) then you may be interested in Meade's mySKY Personal Guide. The mySKY is a tool to aid you in all your galactic gazing; it contains 30,000 unique items it can identify up in the great spacious expanse, 500 audio descriptions to keep you well briefed and a built in GPS receiver to ensure you know exactly which Martian planet you are eyeing.
Retailing at $399.00, if you are serious about your astronomy game it does not seem to bad a deal. The gizmo itself is gadget funk and if the allure of increasing your knowledge base on all things planetary is not enough to convince you, how about the prospect of looking like a bad-ass, laser gun wielding, alien destroying, super secret agent? damn... wonder if i could gut it and put in a bunch of hefty lasers... that thing looks like a bad ass gun and they totally mispurposed it!
so i must correct it
I've never played with it - but I have a 80mm telescope from Meade as well as a CCD camera for the scope, and I have to say they have very good, solid products.
I can imagine this would be pretty cool since it has a gps receiver built in, you could go damn near anywhere and know what you are looking at.
Umm, there's only one Martian planet...Mars.
What an absolutly brilliant tool for looking at Uranus. Or I could turn it on myself and look at my anus. If I felt like it. Which I probably would.
@Jesustron: Ummm it's actually Pluto. KTHX
I miss Pluto... why doesn't it ever call anymore? :(
PWND!
Wikipedia defines a planet as [en.wikipedia.org]
pluto IS still a planet, no matter what the machine says, the same way my keyboard is still a keyboard regardless that someone else calls it a HID
And the read-out says, "BUSTED: you have exceeded extra-planetary speed limit by 80,130,091,724,006 miles per second." "The meter-maid will place your ticket in your mailbox in 3.2 light years." "Failure to submit prompt payment will result in a doubling of your fine!"
Oh, that's a rip-off of Celestron's SkyScout. MySky came afterwards when Meade realized that Celestron had a totally awesome idea.
Of course, that doesn't change the fact that it is one neat little thing... And I prefer Meade to Celestron.
