Dubai Air Show Has Most Amazing Aircraft and Weapon Models Ever

I went to the Dubai Air Show this week, got into a Typhoon fighter cockpit, tickled the most powerful gas turbine in the planet, explored the belly of the biggest cargo plane in the world and jumped aboard the fastest turboprop plane ever. All quite amazing and coming in video soon to Giz. However, one of the things that really amazed me were all the toys displayed around the floor in Boeing, BAE, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and hundreds of aerospace and defense companies' booths. If there's anything these big boys like more than their big deadly toys are the models. And I'm not talking about the blonde Russian booth babes. Check the mega-gallery after the jump.

  • As a plastic model builder, all I can say is: WOW. Simply beautiful models. However, I am having a slight problem with some of the photos you took in portrait orientation. As this is viewed on a computer, and in my case, a notebook, it's very difficult to simply rearrange the screen. I'm sure it's simply an issue with the website itself, as Jesus, your photography is spot-on. Just a suggestion.

  • I got some tickets and I'm going tomorrow for sure. :)

  • blonde russian booth babes.

What the heck is wrong with them and where the hell are their pictures?

I always assumed when the posters were talking about "Gizmodo Towers" and what not, that they were in a sense, kidding. Know that I see lucky guys like Jesus bopping over to Dubai for an air show, the Giz really MUST have the funds to have their own tower! Either that, or independently wealthy contributors. Either way, its why I love this site.

    Great coverage and photos, Jesus!

    You lucky lucky bastards.

At least ya brought back pics!! THANKS!!

  • Pssst - Jesus, get a Canon... they have auto-rotate.

  • I'd like to say that I, for one, followed the jump hoping for blonde russian booth babes, only to be disappointed.

  • @Keebler: Actually, the picture WAS taken with a Canon. An EOS 20D to be specific. Jesus, am I right? (Although the rotation on some of the pics does need to be addressed).

  • Where do I send the doctor bill for fixing my neck after whipping it back and forth to look at half of those pictures? Too bad there isn't some sort of gizmo or technology to help with that, like a feature on a digital camera or a rotate button in an image editor.

And when does the Gizmodo attack helicopter arrive? It will surely help quell all the sarcastic commenters around here, like… um… me.

  • There is a whole sub industry making these models.

They are often given to sVIPs and suchlike and can be very expensive.

You can tell the real ones from the mass produced easily - and they are often wood/composite construction.

My wishlist for models like these:

    B-52 Stratofortress

    P-51 Mustang

    F-14 Tomcat

Starscream, both transformed and in robo form.

  • I was thinking "Yeah! I'll go too!"....then I realized not everything cool is showing in New York....

  • Which one of the models transforms into the blonde, Russian booth-babe?

  • They're not toys, they're action figures!

Something stupid must have been going on with the import. It's a 20D indeed. Weird. It looked good in the computer. Damn.

  • That's actually the new plan for the war on terror. Instead of wasting the time of hundreds of Special Forces troops in the hunt for Bin Ladin, we are just going to send him some Chinese made toy models of some of our weapons. Let him eat some lead paint!!!
