Apple Legal has asked Giz to take down the iPod nano spy shots from earlier today because they are their "intellectual property." Out of respect for The Steve, we've complied. This pretty much confirms they belong to Apple, whether they are final or a prototype. However, the image above is all ours —done from scratch in Photoshop. And compared to the iPhone, we still think it looks like crap a step back. It better be 3mm thin —or else. Check the complete image here.

haha you fanboys...best of luck dealing with this piece of junk...but scene whore emos and fanboys will continue to buy cuz they don't like to look at the competition and differ from their emo scene whore fanboy friends...its a shame really.
apple springing a leak?
must have been exhausting keeping the iphone a secret for so long.
I like it.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Dude, the (allegedly) new iPod nano may not look as amazing as the iPhone, but its UI, sync software and form factor still beats the crap out of any Me-Too-Me-Too Oh-look-I-support-Ogg Check-my-cheapo-touch-thingie-knockoff digital audio player out there. Hands tied, blindfolded and jumping on one leg.
And the next moron who says "cuz" gets the banhammer.
It very much resembles the current iPod Video, only changed. Possibly Apple got upset of the resemblance and asked you to remove it because of that? Don't jump to conclusions.
whats wrong with it? widescreen and all. I dont even own an iPOD because I never thought it had enough of a good low end sound for all the Miami Bass tracks I listen to.
But, I think I like it. looks all weird in a good way.
@jesusdiaz:
Do you know how to click and drag?
Itunes cant beat windows explorer.
I wonder if we'll hear about "The Small Zune" from the Redmond camp now ...
It's about time MS did something with the Zune line.
@jesusdiaz: cuz
Just bought myself a Cowon D2 after seeing the fatty. Had to numb the pain somehow.

iTunes beats the crap out of windows explorer any time of the day. A database system, with data properly tagged, beats the crap of any dumb drag-n-drop scheme you might devise. Unless you don't give a damn about music, that is.
@jesusdiaz: Penalty on Diaz for gratuitous use of the banhammer.
Oh, and by the way, I enjoy your PhotoShop legal dodgings.
So it looks like a 5G but squashed. What's wrong with that? The 5G ain't really ugly. Anyway, I don't want a Nano, I just want a 120GB at least, 160GB at best when they are announced. :::crossing fingers:::
Other annoying things besides saying "cuz": Saying "1337"; saying "Best. [Fill in the blank]. Ever."; making a minor typo then posting another comment to let the world know that you're aware of it; and more...
I think the black one looked alright-ish, but the other felt off balance. They needed colored scroll wheels or something.
Glad I just bought a 2G Nano two weeks ago (2GB). This looks...bleeeehhhhh.
Oh, and whoever does all these photoshops (mainly for the iPhone) deserves a round of applause, or at least a pat on the back.
Maybe Apple doesn't want people to think the next nano would look like that and seeing how bad the feedback was who knows it could cause their stocks to tank so they said "Hey lets take that down before a harmless picture can cause us to lose some money". Sounds reasonable to me.
What in God's name? Johhny Ive looked in his toilete after he took a crap and said, "Oooh! An iPod Nano!"
And for those who didn't see the original "spy photo", it's still up on Engadget.
*knock on wood*
kudos to jesusdiaz for the photoshop work and pissing off apple, also, iTunes was made for simplicity(the person who has never touched a computer in their life), all apple products are, that's why i hate them, i'll stick with good 'ol Windows 2000, hard to use for a lot of people, but easier for me.
Maybe that's because Steve doesn't read Engadget? :-)
my god, why does everyone try make it sound like Engadget is better than Gizmodo, or visa versa, god people, get a life and just go to cnet.
it's not terrible... well, as long as it's the size of a creative zen V. If it is I'll pick up a black one on launch day.
Not sure why the bloggers are freaking out on this one. It's a video Nano/iPod shorty...not really that hard to get your mind around. How, when it looks very much like a regular iPod, is it suddenly the ugliest thing ever crapped out of Jobs blessed hole?
And for the record, iTunes is great for people who don't mind having everything in one place, but for a lot of us it's just way too restrictive and controlling. It is, in fact, the primary reason I never bought an iPod.
@jesusdiaz:
that's very probable
I don;t think this is a Nano, I think it's the new video. It will have flash memory and be a little thicker than the Nano, but will have a similar screen size as the current gen. the new nano will look the same (maybe new colors) and sport new OS features. Then there will be the touch-screen large capacity iPod everyone is wet dreaming about. mark my words.
I can't believe that here in 2007 there are people who still defend iPods and their bloated tardware or "sync software" as some might describe it.
Let's just talk about how good they (used to) look and forget about them being overpriced, lacking features found on cheaper alternatives, requiring proprietary cables and software, having sub-par audio quality, poor firmware that many owners feel a need to replace, shitty file support (some of us enjoy the quality that can be had via OGG or FLAC and it doesn't require a golden ear), no mass storage and hardware issues that have lead to class action lawsuits.
Just joshin', iPods are dope.
Ok, where the heck is the touch-screen iPod? If this is really what the new nano is gonna look like, no offense to Diaz, but it'll be horrible, it's just gonna be another update to the 5th gen iPod, it doesn't even look like a nano, it just looks like a stubby iPod.
And what's OGG exactly?
Like Yoda would say....
maybe it'll be super cheap; $75 -2GB $100-4GB $125-8GB
but since its apple i doubt it.
i hope so, i need something super cheap for running that preferably has a screen, ive been thinking about an iriver s10...
Or mabe Apple also reads blogs and has realized that people have seen a connection b/tween possible "spy shots" and legal actions they take.
This could be a way to throw folks off the trail.
And im no fanboy, all i own is an ipod.
the spy pics kinda looked like a mini version of the zen vision
@heyyou: Meizu M6 SE, be about it.
When I first saw this (alleged) new design I have to admit I found it ugly to say the least. But having seen it more and more it doesn't look bad. It definitely grew on me and the rounder shape is fairly pleasing to the eye in black.
I don't think this is the actual design (or even close), but I wouldn't be too disappointed if it turns out to be.
@JESUSDIAZ

Well, as if there was any doubt left, you just proved yourself the worst Gizmodo has to offer.
How the hell did you ever get this job?
@o0adam0o: that is the dumbest abbreviation i have ever seen, you abbreviate "between" with "b/tween" you not only didn't save any letters, you had to go out of your way to type the slash. ridiculous...
ranting aside, this is a mistake for a nano. i hope to god that this is the new video. it would look good for a video, however it is FAR from small, sleek, and purty like a nano. you buy a nano because you don't give a shit about video, you don't have more than 4 gigs of music (i assume most people), you are super-chic, or you got stuck with it because your parents wouldn't let you pay the extra 50 note required for the video *ahem*.
this thing looks better than the video but it is ugly compared to the nano
Someone else has said this before but...
I would definitely NOT say it confirms anything. Just that it has all the trademarks of an iPod (click-wheel and all) and that Apple knows that they own that look, and therefore asked you not to post anything that resembles that...
Or something like that.
With all the Star Wars references to the iPhone I"m waiting for Jobbs being revealed as Vader photoshopped image. I Don't see why the stormtroopers of Apple cares if the image is out. They made a joke about it with the keyboard pics.The damn thing will be out next month so Apple legal put down your phones and chill.
Great photoshop job! But don't mention my homeboy Yodas name again in relation to Apple stuff. It's an insult to the little green guy and all others that don't fall for the mind trick of Sith Lord Jobs.

Quite possibly the most potent anti-iPod ammunition I've ever seen.
Back when this was thought to be a fake, all of you were trashing it.
"Oh Steve would NEVER design something so ugly!"
Now that it is the real deal, the Apple drones are trying to spin it as being totally cool and innovative.
You guys have been totally exposed as just total stooges, pushing Apple gear in the guise of forum posts.
I have my doubts that design was anything but a red herring. The industrial design just doesn't fit with Apple's latest aesthetic (think Aluminum iMac / iPhone). I'm betting Apple just sent the notices out to throw everyone off the scent of the real deal that's waiting in the wings.
It's almost a sure thing that we'll see new iPods in the next 60 to 90 days. They need to hit shelves before the upcoming holiday season, and Apple won't miss out on that.
It looks like an iPod....
Don't like it, get the older one.
@technabob:
More like you're praying that's what it is.
Who knows, it might have a winning personality.
XD
The real problem is the feeling of being shafted by Apple by turning a JesusPod into a JesusPhone, thusly making it far more expensive than it needed to be.
This...thing...just can't compare. It can't.
