Ben Heck Mods Atari 7800 into Portable Retro-Gaming Wonder
Modding clever-clogs Ben Heck was apparently daunted by the complexity of the Atari 7800's internals at first, so he had to summon up the nerve to try this requested mod. Into the custom-built chassis he squeezed a 7-inch color widescreen display, a set of rechargeable batteries, combo driving/paddle controller and an A-V output. Though it's not exactly pocket-friendly (thanks to the 7800's large motherboard) it's still pretty awesome—check out the gallery. Ben's site has a detailed making-of story if you're interested. Ben Heck's Latest Wonder Project: PS3 Laptop
It looks like the PS3 is finally getting some hot mod love from console modding's reigning wizard, Ben Heck. We don't really have all the details since he hasn't announced the project yet, but the display looks like it's the one he used for the Xbox 360 Elite laptop, for a true 720p picture. One-Handed Xbox 360 Controller (Take 2)
Ben Heck, maker of the most incredible video game hardware mods on the planet, has made another version of his one-handed controller for the Xbox 360. Looking a lot easier to hold, it requires the use of your leg to control the right analog stick (and idea that sounds weirder than it probably actually feels). But the oddest design choice? Xbox 360 Elite Laptop
Benjamin Heckendorn (aka Ben Heck) is known to most of the geek world as a console modding god. And his latest accomplishment, squeezing an Xbox 360 Elite into a laptop, is his best revision yet. Because while he's made 360 laptops before, this is his first based upon the newer 65nm chipset (plus it features the Elite's larger 120GB hard drive). And we especially appreciate that the 17" screen Heck installed uses a 1280×720 resolution (as opposed to 1280X768) for true 720p picture. Yes, we really are mega geeks. Ben Heck Sticks an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller into an Original Xbox Controller
Console modder Ben Heck generally takes formerly gigantic things and crams them into small packages. For his most recent project, he did the opposite: He stuck an Xbox 360 wireless controller into an original Xbox controller, which is monstrous in size. While yes, he added batteries and wireless capabilities to the original Xbox controller, it just doesn't feel as exciting as, say, an Xbox 360 laptop. For some odd reason he decided to take the already near-perfect Xbox 360 controller and adapt it for other one-handed uses.
