Walmart Taking Steps To Prevent Another Black Friday Trampling

You may recall that last year, a man named Jdimytai Damour was trampled to death in the crush of a Walmart crowd eager to score Black Friday deals. This year, Walmart is taking steps to prevent another tragic incident. More »

Target's Black Friday Ad Is Yet Another Black Friday Letdown

Maybe it's good there are so few decent Black Friday sales going on since no one has money to spend anyway. Or maybe not. Either way, Target's Black Friday ad has leaked. And while you could do worst than a $450 40-inch Apex LCD, you probably could do a lot better, too. (OK, fine, the $250 32-inch Westinghouse is a tad more tempting, as is a $50 gift card with the purchase of an Xbox 360 Elite.) [BlackFriday]

    Kmart Black Friday Ad Leaked

This year's Black Friday ads are starting to trickle in, although Kmart's offerings are characteristically "meh". However, there are a few halfway decent deals like the Xbox 360 Halo bundle for $299 and a 4GB SD Card for $9. More »

Don't Expect Recession Busting Prices At Best Buy This Holiday Season

Black Friday horror stories are inevitable, but nothing can compare to the trampling death of a 34 year old Walmart employee. But who is really to blame? Let us know—and feel free to vent.

    Black Friday Horror Stories

While nothing can match the horror of workers getting killed by stupid mobs and shootings in the middle of a Toys R Us, we keep receiving horror tales about other Black Fridays gone wrong. The biggest one is about how CompUSA/Tigerdirect online "sale"—the one with the Sony Vaio TT with a $5,000 discount was apparently a total disaster, according to readers. Update: A guy from the CompUSA "sale" wrote to us. Readers keep posting their stories about other places in the comments. More »

WalMart Worker Trampled to Death by Deal-Crazed Black Friday Shoppers

OK, Black Friday has officially gotten out of hand. A 34-year-old WalMart employee was trying to hold back the crowds at a Long Island store this morning at 5am, when they took the doors off their hinges and stormed the store. The man fell down and was trampled by over 200 people as he gasped for air. It's sad and despicable, and it's equally the fault of the dehumanized shoppers and the WalMart store it happened at. Question of the Day: How Long are You Willing to Wait in Line For Black Friday Deals?

Based on an earlier poll, we already know that plenty of you will be heading out to shop on Black Friday. Major polls listed in our Black Friday survival guide indicate that the number of people heading out overall could be higher than in previous years. That having been said, I'm curious to know about what people are willing to endure to get the deal they really want. So, my question is: how long are you willing to wait in line for Black Friday deals? More »

7 Crappy Black Friday "Deals" That Aren't Really

We've been telling you all of the deals you shouldn't miss for Black Friday, plus how to survive while getting exactly what you want. Well, Electronic House goes in the other direction, pointing out seven Black Friday "deals" you should avoid because you can get the same (or better) deal right now somewhere else. Topping the list are the Canon SD1100IS digital camera at Sears, which is currently cheaper at Amazon, and the Sharp LC-52SB55U HDTV at Circuit City, which is $200 cheaper at Best Buy as we speak. Walmart Black Friday Deals Leaked

Last week CNN got wind of some of the doorbuster deals Walmart would offer this Black Friday. The promise of a 50-inch Samsung plasma HDTV for $800, Xbox 360 bundle with Guitar Hero III and wireless guitar for $200, $128 Blu-ray player and $400 HP desktop got our hopes up that Walmart would swoop in to rescue our nerdy holiday. An additional 50 "mystery deals" will be unveiled in stores only on Black Friday. Create Honest Black Friday Ads to Reflect the Economic Climate

Things are bad out there, people. We're going to see a pretty sad holiday shopping season from retailers perspectives. Yet these Black Friday ads we're seeing, they look just like they do every year. I don't think they adequately reflect just how badly they want, nay, they need your money. Let's add a bit of that desperation into their advertising, shall we? More »

Why You Probably Won't Find Amazing Sony Deals for Christmas

In the midst of the financiapocalypse, with consumers stuffing money in mattresses and sprinkling themselves with holy water to avoid the layoff plague, you might think companies like Sony would slash and burn their typically premium prices to move whatever HDTVs and Blu-ray players and cameras they could. Nope. We talked to Sony Electronics President Stan Glasgow this morning about why Sony is holding steady on prices and staying out of the low end, even as consumers are obviously looking spend less. He also dished about Circuit City's fairly grim prospects, Blu-ray sales not meeting expectations and why Sony knew the economy was going deep into the crapper in February, before Alan Greenspan. Quite a few decent deals, if you're not afraid of rebates being invalidated. Here is some of what Staples has to offer, with a little asterix to warn you if it requires a rebate.
