Japanese Cellphone Makers To Unify Charger Sockets

Even though this news doesn't affect the US, our Japanese cellphone brothers' decision to unify their charger plugs makes us feel all warm and intestiney inside—not all that dissimilar to our tapeworm infection of '93-'94.

NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and Vodafone KK's sockets are all currently different and have incompatible chargers. This is pretty much the same for us, except we have to deal with Samsung, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola's incompatibility. The three Japanese companies say they will make everything mesh by 2010, when 4G is widely deployed. Fantastic! That means by 2026, we'll finally get the same thing in the States.
