Rumor: Apple iPhone Out on June 11th (Fool us Once)

CNET grows huge, hairy balls, and makes a bold claim that the iPhone is coming out on June 11th. The source? A random Cingular sales agent they'd reached on the phone. Please hold, while I connect you to my...disbelief.

Haven't you guys learned anything?
June 11th is a Monday, and Apple maniacs know that The Company only releases stuff on Tuesday. Even if Cingular is doing the distribution, it makes as much sense as any that the phone will be released, according to Cult Tradition. Which doesn't change until Steve Jobs says it changes.

The better bet is the Tuesday of WWDC, which is the 12th.–Brian Lam

so if you don't believe a word of this article why would you post it? besides this is all speculation anyway. like i can just say it's coming out tomorrow and there, you guys would post it saying that a cingular customer says the iphone comes out tomorrow.

I'm getting really tired of all the news sources come up with some random Apple rumor every other day. There's valid ones, like assuming that low mac stocks means new comps are coming. But then someone says that Leopard is delayed till october cause Win Vista support is hard (Bootcamp came out today with Vista support), or they do a claim like this, which they could at least say it was on a tuesday. It seems all the news people are trying to one up each other by coming up with the some random rumor that sticks.

Ahh, but Monday is the day of the Keynote, and Apple had announced products that shipped the same day at the WWDC keynote (WWDC 2003, iSight.) I remember this well, because they gave all attendees an iSight, and that's one of the years that I couldn't attend, so I missed out (although, I did get a lovely daughter in stead, which means a hell of a lot more to me.)

The Apple keynotes are typically done the day after the show starts in like Macworld. I can't recall a monday release date for anything in the last few years. Even ITMS is tuesday (j/k)
