Think your phone's fancy just cause it has a touch-screen? If things go as planned, Sharp's future mobiles will have VGA touch-screens capable of reading your fingerprints. The new screens/readers (which were developed in Sharp's European labs) will each have embedded image sensors to give your mobile biometric security features. Sure, beats having to put your phone on lock all the time.

will be a pain in the ass cleaning the grease off the screen all the time.
Yeah, the biometric sensor should be on the back of the phone, seperate from the screen you look at all day. Though that would probably call for an increase in phone size and we all know how much people hate using pkones bigger than their pinkies.
now all they have to do is make this colour and able to focus, and we'd have a perfect way to do video calling which doesnt really work at the moment!
I'm still surprised they havent put thumbprint readers on any laptop that costs over $1000. I can understand due to costs not wanting to put them on sub par laptops. But why aren't these standard features on the good to best laptops?
mythbusters had a show on defeating security devices, they were able to beat print readers pretty easily. starting with gel impressions of the print and working down to xerox copies of the print, everything worked.
Lupison...how can you say costly laptops don't come with fingerprint readers? Maybe crap Dell and HP don't, but the good laptops do...ie ThinkPads.
Lupison...as to expensive laptops not having print readers...HP and Dell crap might not, but a good laptop will. ie. ThinkPads.
As to mythbusters, I saw that episode too. As they said, unless you're dealing with a master criminal, who is going to try and lift your prints off of some random surface? No one.
Pantech is already selling cellphones with this feature.
They had that in Bourne Supremacy back in 2004! It was an HP PDA though.
hey that was my ideea!!!
