SE Xperia Panel Interface Modded to Work on HTC Touch HD
Not sure why anybody would take on this project, but several modders at the xda-developers forum have gotten Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 panel interface to work on HTC's Touch HD. From the look of it, X1 installs, launches and works without much of a speed difference, and the panel interface actually seems nicer on the Touch HD's roomier screen. I doubt either company would be happy about this, but if you ever wanted X1's interface rather than TouchFLO on your HTC handset, I guess now there's a way to get it. Sony Sets 2012 Goal For 12MP Cell Cameras, Meets it in a Week
Last week Sony Ericsson predicted quite a few things for the cell phones of 2012: faster processors, high-resolution screens, superfast connectivity and most specifically, 12-20MP cameras. Well what do you know! Sony — that Sony — has just announced a 12.25MP CMOS sensor for phone cameras. Looks like either a horrible breakdown of internal communication or a hilariously obvious example of gaming expectations. In either case, expect these to start showing up in CyberShots (and others) well before 2012. [Akihabara] -

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a Coming to Best Buy Next Month
According to inventory spy shots obtained by BGR, the North American version of the Sony Xperia X1 is expected to finally hit store shelves in the States via Best Buy stores starting on December 7th. If you were eager to get your hands on one, be prepared to fork over a whopping $800 for what appears to be an unlocked version—a price that hardly seems worth it for a Windows Mobile smartphone that really doesn't bring anything new to the table. SE Xperia Phones Might Not Use Windows
In a small blow to Microsoft's smartphone market dreams, Sony Ericsson has refused to confirm that their spanking new Xperia line will continue shacking up with the Windows Mobile platform. The heartless cad of a company insisted that it not commit to any specific operating system, presumably because it'd be doing the world a disservice if it allowed itself to be tied down. Hmm, sounds like some of the dudes I've dated. What are the chances M'soft will also have to shoulder hysterical 3am phone calls begging for a second chance at making the relationship work? Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 to Hit Streets First in Europe, September 30
Sony Ericsson's upcoming Xperia X1 smartphone is due to go on sale at first in Europe in just 20 days. Media Sync: iTunes Syncing on HTC, Nokia, Sony, and Sony Ericsson Devices
Obviously, if you love iTunes but do not own an iPhone, syncing your music can be frustrating. Salling Software has developed a solution to this problem with Media Sync—an app that transfers playlists, music and podcasts to a wide array of Nokia, Sony, and Sony Ericsson phones (also works in a limited fashion with the HTC Touch Diamond). The basic Windows / Mac software is free, but you will have to shell out $22 for the fast sync version. And, naturally, it does not transfer DRM protected tunes. [Salling via Cult of Mac] -

Sony Ericsson W760a Coming to AT&T, Says Rumor
We raved about the Sony Ericsson W760's whizzy Walkman interface when we first talked about this phone in January, and now over at Cellphone Signal they've got information suggesting the cellphone is coming to the US with AT&T. The confirmation comes from this leaked photo of a W760 bearing a teeny tiny little AT&T Deathstar logo. The guys at Cellphone Signal think that means you'll be able to buy this 3.2-megapixel cam, GPS-enabled phone "within weeks," though that sounds a little too like speculation.
