Definitely more awesome than Tokyo Wars, VS Tanks feature rotational turrets that fire AirSoft shells, and can go disco with a "super spin" move to bewilder and confuse opponents. On top of the obvious remote control goodness, you can outfit each one with an action cam so you can relive your friend's humiliating defeat again and again. Video and set deets after the jump.
The kits run about $100, but they come with a pair of tanks and remotes, eight each of varying CD case connectors (to make battle ramps) and a battlefield. Oh, and manual—like you need one. Just grab and kill, baby.

wait, am i at gizmodo? this has nothing to do with the iphone
dude... that is so cool! hope it is better than those stupid battle bot thingys... you know, the ones where you had to swipe the cards to get them to upgrade, then there were only 2 channels, so it was 2 player max...
also, these shoot air soft shells... o yeah... badass...
But what does this have to do with the iPhone?
im totally sold. i love the cd case clips, i think thats the smartest thing about the whole package. i used to play a lot of tabletop warhammer and cd/vhs/dvd cases always end up making up most of the battlefield.
I was a tank commander in the IDF. In tank commander course we had to practice dry runs for large-scale excercises using little dummy tanks and move them by hand - this would've been absolutely amazing to have as an alternative!!
I'll think I'll get a set just to relive the heyday...
This so needs to come to the Stages.
@djtooshay: Ani gam rotzeh!
@Windhawk: I SO knew it!
uhh... I've known about these since 04'. The company makes 3 diff types of tanks I thnk. They even make a airsoft one but its expensive. [www.vstank.com]
I'm a big fan of these tanks. We banded together and imported about 30 of them for ourselves and friends.
They are a lot of fun, but they are not without problems. I see some antenna on them now, so it may be that they are using RF for control. Ours used infrared, which worked fine, unless you get behind an obstacle, which limited the coolness of the battlefields we could build. Also, the build quality was fairly poor. Of the 30 we received, about 8 of them developed problems pretty quickly. Pulling too hard to one side or the other (more than could be corrected using the trim control) and completely failing to respond or responding very sporadically were the main problems.
That said, they were really really fun while they lasted. The neat thing about getting several of the same "frequency" was that it allowed you to control a "battalion" at the same time. Of course, you'd quickly lose control of about half of them, but that was most of the fun.
Oh, and fair warning.. chasing the cat may seem like a good idea at the time, but remember, these tanks are small enough that an angry cat can easily send it flying with a swipe.. from the counter top.. to the floor.. to shatter.. Just saying..
Its like that video game Combat for the Atari 2600! I would have killed for these when I was a kid! Hell, I'll kill for them now! Now all I need is friends for whom to battle with. Will anybody be my battle tank friend?
@LastVigilante: I will. But be prepared to get your ass handed to you... I'm a pro. Literally.
There are actually copies of the original IR battle tanks by DigiQ. I had that and it was fun for about 1 hour. Then it was packed away for years until sold at yard sale for $10.
