  • I like it but it looks like the huge chin of the iMAC is on top instead of the bottom.

Why can't these companies just center the display???

  • @kibets: No, look... that's the reflection of the table. I was all confused too, but you can see the bezel underneath the glass... it's the same width on the top and bottom as it is on the sides.

  • @DAED,

Yea you are right... it is centered!
Actually I think they'd do better with a similar looking model with the $999 price point.

  • The right side of the keyboard looks interesting. Is that a touchpad? If so, why?

  • @OtterKing: I guess to eliminate the need for a wireless mouse or to make it feel more "all-in-one" like a laptop? I'm not sure if I could use the touchpad on a traditional computer though.

  • Why? Because these computers will often be used as customer terminals where space is tight and mice appear messy. The touchpad works well in that scenario.

  • @OtterKing: Also, a PC like this will probably end up in a lot of people's living rooms and in that situation putting the keyboard on your lap and using the trackpad is much easier than futzing with a mouse.

  • @OtterKing: Also because a PC like this will probably end up in a lot of people's living rooms. And in that situation using the trackpad from the keyboard is a lot easer than trying to use the couch cushion as a mousepad :)

  • The question now is, can you change out components like the video card in the future? I absolutely love this idea, I have been looking for something portable around the house, but not quite a notebook. However, my biggest concern is upgrading major items like the video card in a year or two. I'm sure memory/proc/hdd etc will be fine, but for gaming, video cards are key.

  • @ogreinside: Possible but I wouldnt hold your breath on that. You are basically buying a large laptop when you get something like this. To make it all into an attractive form factor its going to be mostly laptopish components, slimmed down.

While its possible I would bet that they are going to follow the lead of the imac, by making them more terminals for people to surf the net or watch a movie. You still wont be able to beat a traditional tower for gaming/scalability.

  • A couple things on this model. There are some great features on this that Dell XPS models are known for but there are some downsides too. One is the weight. The 20" weighs almost 40lbs! Not exactly light. Second is this will not be for gaming. Its using a low-mid level AMD laptop graphics solution. This will be for the TV market as it comes with a TV tuner built in.

  • A few buck below apple should be perfect for the price.
