Instead of always having to remember to lock your desktop when you go for a whiz at work, this Security Ring by designer Yang Hai takes care of all of that for you. You put the ring on one of your fingers, and when it gets a certain distance away from the base station (which is connected to your computer), all your programs get locked. We've set up our machines to do the same thing with Bluetooth cellphones, but a ring is much easier to remember. Too bad it's only a design, because we could see ourselves using this for other purposes as well. [Yanko Design]

Yah, until someone really wants access to your machine, then bam, you have a new nickname "4 Fingers Chen"
They just need to combine this with the vibrating alarm ring and I would buy it.
What bluetooth software do you use to lock your computers?
Salling Clicker will do it.
Sygyzy: Salling Clicker has a script out that now does this with its software [www.sallingsoftware.com]
Uh, what other purposes do you have in mind?
I'm stumped.
I use USBWiSec [sourceforge.net] along with these little cheap USB wireless presence devices. [www.amazon.com] I paid less than the $20, but this is the first one that a quick search turned up.
@Oneon1isto:
C'mon, it's Jason! This thing is gonna end up in someone's pants!
Ok, someone link me to an Windows Moblile app that does this thru bluetooth.
Thank you.
With all these ring designs lately, do these designers think we're the Mandarin or something?
These systems remind me of something that was developed at PARC many moons ago. Users wore a badge that allowed them to leave their computer, walk to another, and pick up their session at the new location.
I always thought this would be good for heading to the library for some research, but.....we don't really have a research library at work anymore.
A non-concept version has already been reported on, right here at [gizmodo.com]
It's been around a while, and work like shit, but hey, you get what you pay for...
Proximity badges have been used for years to do this type of thing. Only dorks wear badges. The ring's got bling.
Couldn't they have made it look like the One Ring from Lord of the Rings? Then I could rule them all. HAAAA! HAAAA! HAAAA!
I think a Four-Finger Ring would be more like it. With an MP3 player too.... uh oh, race to the patent office!
The quickest way to learn to do lock your machine is to have your coworkers mess with your machine while you're awya from your computer. Then you learn to Ctrl-Alt-Del, Enter or Win-L pretty quickly...
