$450 Lenovo C300 All-in-One Desktop Has Netbook Guts
Lenovo's new summer products all share the same thrifty sensibilities, and the C300 AIO desktop is no exception. Looking at the specs, it's roughly an Atom-based netbook. Looking at its pictures, it's a nicely-styled desktop, not unlike the new Dell Studio all-in-one. More » -

AMD Still Going 'Asset Light', Poops Out 500 Employees
Spinning off their entire manufacturing arm wasn't the end of AMD's new "asset light" business plan — the manufacturer has cut 500 jobs from its remaining workforce around the world. The worst news is that these cuts were planned before everyone became poor last month, so it's hard to shake the feeling that things still aren't going too well for AMD. It'd be sad to see processors become a one horse race, but that's what it's starting to look like. [Reuters] -

Asus Eee Touchscreen All-in-One Pops Up for Pre-Order, Looks Vaguely Apple-y
The many, many promises that Asus would release a touchscreen Eee by the end of this year have been fulfilled—by pasting an Eee sticker on a touchscreen all-in-one (also promised, though not with touchiness). This all-in-one touchscreen Eee, which you can pre-order in the UK for £399.99, is pretty hobbled: 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive and 15-inch screen running Windows XP. I can only imagine how atrocious the touch experience is, but we'll find out on Nov. 20, or thereabouts, according to Play. And it only kinda apes the old-school iMac aesthetic. Update: It'll be called the Eee Top and it'll hit the US for just $450, which sounds like a deal. [Play via Engadget] -

Dell Continues Stylish Trend with Studio Slim Desktops
While not quite as stylish as the Studio Hybrid, Dell's new Studio Slim line is a promising update to their standard PCs for those of us ever-interested in an inexpensive media PC. Starting at $549, systems begin with 2.53GHz Core2Duo processors, 2GB of RAM and integrated graphics, but include HDMI out and are pumpable with Blu-ray. Plus, at less than 4 inches tall (on its side), a Studio Slim shouldn't be much more obnoxious than your current DVR setup...even if it doesn't have its own matching stand like the Hybrid. Sony Has Upgrade Frenzy: Tweaks many Vaio PCs, Including A-Series Mega Laptop
We brought you a three new Vaios last week, but Sony Japan seems to be in the mood to tweak much of the rest of its Vaio line of laptops and desktops. There are new machines in the A-series, C-series, L-series and R-series. The RT50 is aimed at professional users, labeled "photo edition," with an anti-glare screen and a screen shield. CS60B is a 14.1-inch laptop in numerous colors and 802.11n Wi-Fi, and the LJ53B is one of Sony's stylish desktop all-in-one media-players. But the AW70 and AW50 are the most interesting: monster, 18.4-inch powerful laptops with Blu-ray burners and HDMI-out, designed as desktop replacements. More » -

Sony VAIO RT All-In-One PC Is A 25.5" Widescreen, HDMI-Filled, Video Editing Monster
The VAIO RT is Sony's beast of an all-in-one PC, an "extra-widescreen" (read: 16:9) 25.5" display, created with designers and video editors in mind. It's big feature is that it not only has an HDMI-in port in order to work with HD content, but it also has an HDMI-out, for connecting a second monitor. Other features include a Blu-ray recordable drive and up to 1TB of hard drive space. It also comes loaded with 8GB RAM, a multi-card reader and a built-in digital TV tuner. Of course, you're still stuck with Vista, but with all that power underneath you should do just fine. Unfortunately, the RT has a beastly price tag to match—it starts at $3300—when it arrives this fall. Press release down below. [Sony] More » -

Packard Bell (!?) Launches Gaming Desktop Line
Packard Bell—previously referred to as Packard Hell and Packard Smell—is diving head-first into the gaming PC market with the ipower X2.0, a gaming rig that features full customization at a decent price. It's aimed squarely at offerings from Acer and Ares. The Intel-based machines give customers their choice of ATI or Nvidia graphics, disk drives, audio options, TV tuners and other add-ons. In addition, the PC features advanced cooling, including a silent water cooling system. The boxes are expected for this holiday season at about $2000, and we're hoping they're nothing like the PBs of the past. [Trusted Reviews] -

Acer Aspire X1200 Series Mini-PCs Stuff HDMI Jack, 9 USB Ports and More in a Tiny Space
If you gotta go the desktop route, Acer's got three mini-PCs packed heavy with ports that don't take up a ton of space. Measuring 10.6" x 4" x 14.4", about the same as a hardcover book, the X1200s have an HDMI port—like Dell's leaked mini, aka the green PC, but unlike the smaller Asus Eee Box, which only has DVI—plus two PCIes, nine(!!) USBs, FireWire, front and back audio jacks, a DVD SuperMulti drive and a 14-in-1 card reader. Under the hood, it comes standard with 4GB RAM, the better to power the AMD dual-core processor with Nvidia GeForce 8200 integrated graphics to run Vista (now with SP1!). The PCs are out now for $450 to $700, a config which includes a 500GB drive and 22" LCD monitor. Check out the press release after the jump. [Acer] More » -
