If you have always wondered how Australian miners amuse themselves when they are bored, wonder no longer. It is way cooler than any of us expected: they take a massive mining truck and use it to destroy land cruisers that are found unoccupied, all for funzies. Is there anything more fun than destroying large metal based structures with larger metal based structures? The video of the event indicates that there isn't. Don't believe us? Hit the video for the truth behind real good times. [Liveleak]

simply epic!
AHAHAHAHAHAH!...
dude..."funsies"??
NO! haroon, you have a spelling deficiency...its "funzies"
Ahh reminds me of GTA. SO much fun with the HUGE mining dump truck :)
Very nice!
Man, I had to play the same few levels of Carmageddon 2 over and over to save up enough to buy that truck. As this video shows, it was totally worth it. So much as touch another car and they'd be "wasted".
What do you do at Gizmodo on a slow day?...
That was wonderful
Was that Mr. Bean driving??
Makes me want to dig out my Tonkas...
At least when they destory the cars on Top Gear, it's more fun to watch and they waste more money in the long run aswell.
Hmm, I wonder what would've happened if the suv they ran over had a full tank of fuel? I would like to see an explosion in there somewhere.
Awesome.... you had loved to seen it live. buwahahahahaha!
@GizFanAlpha: As the folks at MythBusters pointed out, smashing up cars, even shooting at their tanks, does not cause them to explode in an orgiastic pyrotechnic display... though it would be cool if it did. :)
@Windhawk:yeah it would. How would someone be able to get that effect?
SUNDAY!!! SUNDAY SUNDAY!!
Does that thing have airbags? (the suv, not the dumptruck)
@GizFanAlpha: it's more likely on an empty tank- gasoline needs to be mixed with oxygen to explode.
Look at my freakin' car! It is crushed... to Bejesus and back!
Must be old tyres on the truck, at $(AUD)30,000+ (each) you dont want to be damaging them.
My boss was once busted on a minesite for overtaking one of those trucks, now I can see the consequences.
@electrikecho: Have you gotten an estimate?
Fricking awesome.
Reminded me of a MUCH better video of jeremy Cluckson killing a russian lada!! must see:
Wow. I wish I was an Australian miner with a giant earth mover...
@electrikecho:
Noice. Carl is my hero!
@Nately: Sweet. ATHF is soo appropriate for this clip.
Aussie Aussie Aussie!!!
I work for an Australian mining company - that clip is years and years old (if you can't tell from the look of the cars in it).
The truck was wrecked as a demonstration of why you need special permits when driving in mixed use areas, and as a general advisory as to why mining industry health and safety regs should probably be obeyed...
That's pretty cool, even if it was staged for educational purposes.
lol... I've seen you guys post old stuff, but this is so old I can't even keep myself from posting this useless message.
It's a mining site people, everything runs on diesel anyway so no explosions. I wonder if the dump truck was going flat out.
This is obviously not what it looks like, Australian miners are paid way too much to be bored. I wonder if they did it in one take.
@JomeyQ: nice ref, dude. that game kicked ass. this was cool, but I do hope it wasn't wanton destruction of some poor sap's car ('less he's a dick, in which case have at it!)
Awesome!...
Now if that poor little rover was actually a Transformer and put it self back together and kicked that mining trucks ass I'd be really impressed.. hehe
Nice find tho & thanks for sharing...
It'll buff out.
@DomZ: i already did, clean up was quick.
bad joke, i already want to take it back.
Crazy Ozzies!
O_o
That was awesome. That's one HUGE truck.
Gotta love those wacky Aussies.
I wonder what would happen if you set a whole line of cars in front of it, like how they do in monster truck racing.
That's the new Hummer for Hip Hop A listers. Is there a stretch version?
simply smashing
wow, thats pretty amazing, though for upto $1m each, you'd think they'd have breaks and a horn :P
@GizFanAlpha: Not anymore.
It's proof that we're all worried about this fuel crisis; they're already planning Road Warrior tactics...
land cruiser...more like land snoozer
thanks for making my morning a little better haroon
It's just a flesh wound!
That's awesome! I didn't know vehicles could get crushed so compactly!
Anyone got a big shovel? I think my dumpgruck just stepped in something.
@ZX3Junglist: awesome clip all should check it out, Jeremy Clarckson rocks
My 2008 plan:
- Apply for a job in a Australian Mining company
- Buy one of these babies'... All stress from traffic would literally disappear!
Looks like fun. Invite me next time.
Hmm, I think the Landcruiser may have been gutted, since it was squashed really flat. At the very least they must have removed the engine and seats.
Where can I lease one for my morning commute?
My Old Man Is A Television Repairman, He's Got This Ultimate Set Of Tools. I Can Fix It.
It was a safety video.
I have driven a lot of heavy farm equipment in my life. I would love to have a crack at driving one of those trucks!
@wvv: I hadn't seen it before, and from the other comments, it looks like alot of other people hadn't seen it either. Where the hell is it that Gizmodo ever claimed to only show the latest and greatest articles? Want to know what's old? How about people like you making comment about how you saw it before, even years before it was posted here. Now that's old. As if somehow we're all supposed to be impressed by what you've seen before. Please do us a favor next time, and just don't comment on it. As for the video, it's a pretty good safety demonstration with a hint of entertainment for those who will never in their life be at a mine.
