Samsung's Nabee Connects Cameras to PCs, Cables Not Required
Samsung's Nabee system is a way of adding Wi-Fi sync-up capabilities to simpler digital cameras that lack them. It uses the Alereon AL5000 wireless USB chipset that operates at 3.1 to 10.6 GHz over a 30-foot range and has two parts: a small dongle that goes into the camera's USB socket and one that goes into the PC. It's due out in December, though there's no info on pricing. [FarEastGizmos] -

Samsung HZ1: Skinny, Zoomy, Hi Deffy
The Samsung HZ1 is just a 26mm thick point 'n shoot, but it manages to pack in a 10x zoom, 24mm wide angle lens and 720P HD video recording that captures at 30 frames per second. Of course there's all the other stuff you'd expect in a premium camera of this class—optical image stabilization, 10.2MP and semi-useful extras like face detection—but we're just happy to see a small camera avoiding metallic paint for a change. Unfortunately, no word on price or availability yet. [Akihabara News] -

Samsung's New Cameras Are Cheap Excuse to Show Hot Biker Girl
For some strange and sick reason, Samsung is one of those manufacturers who doesn't think that girl power is the future of gadgetry, and instead assumes that all digital camera buyers are sex-obsessed men, basement World of Warcraft players with a large hadron collider for all things leather and large female attributes, all of them eager to try their new Fall 2008 camera lineup on a blonde riding a bike. Samsung's TL9 Point-and-Shoot Camera Has Dual Analog Gauges
Outside of the TL34HD, Samsung released 3 other second-tier point-and-shoots: the TL9, SL310W and SL201. However, the most notable of these is definitely the 10 megapixel TL9 with its dual analog gauges that keep track of remaining battery life and memory capacity. More » -

It is also capable of shooting video in 720p high-definition resolution at 30fps ( with movie stabilizer and optical zoom). Expect to see it on store shelves by September for around $330. Samsung SC-MX20 Is YouTube, PMP Friendly With H.264 Shooting
Samsung's SC-MX20 follows up the MX10 with some fairly useful features such as h.264 video mode for better YouTube, iPod, iPhone and PMP compatibility, as well as a max 720x480 resolution for DVD-quality video. It stores up to 16 hours on one 32GB SDHC card, has three hours of battery life (best-in-class they claim?), 34x optical zoom, image stabilization and "3D noise reduction." Out in August for $280 in black, red and white. Not too bad a price if you're looking to go a little higher than the entry-level Flip cams. Not having to re-encode everything you shoot is real nice too. [Samsung via Electronista] -

Samsung Developing Full-Frame Pro DSLR
The new horserace for DSLR cameramakers is in full-frame (equivalent to 35mm) pro cameras, formerly a Canon-dominated market. Nikon's stunning D3 was its first full-frame DSLR (after years of saying it's unnecessary) and Sony unveiled its own 25MP whopper in January (they're trying to quickly build technical prestige). Now Samsung has let on it's cooking its own full-frame sensor for a pro camera. They're probably co-developing with Pentax (again) since the exec that slipped the plans re-emphasized their coziness, so we'll likely see the same sensor in cameras from both makers, with differentiation in the body and software. Digital Camera Review says that the Pentax K20D's "image quality is among the best I've seen in the sub $2,000 price range," and Pentax usually delivers a nice price-to-performance ratio, so this could make the full-frame DSLR market a lot more interesting. Samsung L77 Is One Skinny Shooter
Samsung's got quite a reputation with its improbably slim cellphones, and now it turns its expertise on the L77, a midrange point-and-shoot that it's calling the "world's thinnest 7-megapixel camera." No wonder it's called L77, because along with that 7-megapixel CCD, it has an unusually long 7x optical zoom as well. Samsung i7 Digital Camera Rotating LCD Still has no Purpose
We first showed your the Samsung i7 digital camera last week, and I'm not going to lie, I was a bit confused with the rotating LCD. What is the purpose? To better show portrait-style pictures rather than landscape? Nope, not at all. This video has hit the intertubes showing the i7 in action and the entire purpose of the rotating LCD is ... I still don't know. When you flip the LCD 90-degrees it does not change the orientation of the contents on the screen—so you have to physically rotate the camera 90 degrees to view the screen. The video demo's the rotating screen as a PMP, but seriously, Samsung, what is the point? More » -

The Cameras of CES
Wedged between the biannual Photokina show last September and the annual PMA show this coming February, CES is not the best place to find new camera announcements. More About Samsung's Cameras
We got to feel up Samsung's new digicams today. The flaks even let us take some sample shots—despite the cameras being very pre-production. Photos taken with the 10-megapixel S1050 didn't show any big problems at least. 10 megapixels is likely overkill, so you could pay $100 less ($250) and get almost all the same features in the 8-megapixel S850 - but you would have to settle for a 3.5-inch LCD instead of the giant 3-incher in the S1050. The Coolest Camera You Can't Get Here
Available in Asia, the 7-megapixel i70 is an update to the sexy NV3 that houses a portable media player inside a sleek stainless-steel shell. The N7's killer app, though, is the ability to get onto HSDPA cellular networks for superfast photo uploads from just about anywhere, sans PC. But figuring out the backward cellular networks in the US was too much for Sammy. So they bagged bringing it to US for now. "We will not be bringing the i70 (the camera with HSDPA technology) into the US until the technologies are compatible..." said our buddy Jason over at Samsung's PR firm. -
