Use Your Cellphone To Control Your Box With TiVo Mobile Website

Adding to an ever expanding list of new features like pizza ordering and Netflix streaming, TiVo's now bringing you the option of SlingBox-esque control of your box on your cellphone. Their new mobile site, m.tivo.com, allows both subscribers and non-subscribers to browse television shows, schedule recordings to their TiVo box and possibly find new shows worth hitting the record button for. According to TiVo, the site is optimized for all cellphones and cellphone browsers, so anybody with internet connectivity can use it. DVRPics iPhone App Beams Your Photos to TiVo

It's not going to change the world of iPhone apps or TiVo forever, but the $1 DVRPics app is a neat, cheap, little addition to the Apple App Store library nevertheless. The purpose is pretty straightforward: The app displays the photos on your iPhone or iPod touch on your TiVo. Features are bare bones for now, notes TiVo Blog, but the apps's developer, Chris Lundie, wants us to know that the ability to make slideshows in advance is coming. Also, Lundie notes that Apple's draconian practices do not allow direct access to the photo library. This is the reason why DVRPics can’t make all your photos available to the DVR at once, he said. Tivo and Echostar DVR Patent Saga Ends With $104 Million Payout to Tivo

After getting resoundly swatted in court by Tivo time and again for walking all over its patent for a "multimedia time warping system" (cool retro-future speak for a DVR), Echostar (now just Dish) is finally admitting defeat once and for all. Following its loss to TiVo in a US Appeals court earlier this year, Echostar appealed to the Supreme Court, which just decided not to hear the case, leaving Echostar nowhere else to turn. More »

Neuros Hackable Open-Source Set-Top Box Updated: OSD2

Neuros has taken another stab at the open-source set-top box market, and created the "Open Source Device 2." The original OSD was aimed at developers, but ended up finding use as a DVR. The new OSD2 has a more conventional box, can encode video at 720p in MPEG-4 format, H.264 D1 resolution (that's DVD quallity) from an analog video source, upscale video to 1080i or transcode it for a PMP. It's got a serial port, IRBlaster port, connections for Wi-Fi antenna, USB, LAN, HDMI, composite video and stereo audio, and even packs an SD port. AT&T U-Verse Update Now Allowing DVR on 8 TV Sets At Once

In an attempt to one-up Verizon's FiOS, AT&T has finally rolled out a new software update for its U-verse service that'll let subscribers watch recorded shows on up to eight different TV sets. FiOS only offers multiroom DVR for seven different televisions currently. The feature is already available in San Francisco and nearby subscriber cities, but ought to be rolled out to the rest of the Bay Area this week. While I'm sure this is a welcome change for anyone who's been using U-Verse, I doubt being able to DVR on one extra set will help AT&T gain the ground it so desperately craves. But for those who are looking for something better for the ego, Niveus has just revealed their updated media centers, the Rainier, Pro Series and Denali Limited Edition. All three lines support 8 CableCards and 10 Media Center Extenders. The Rainier is modest, storing 1TB of data with no fans. The rack-mountable Pro Series continues the fanless trend and packs 4TB of storage, 32GB SSD, Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia Series 9 graphics card (for when 1080P video just isn't enough).
